Intro invitation
Happy to be getting closer to the weekend 🥳 We've had a few people trickling into the group over the past few weeks, and I'm realizing that I don't know everyone here. To continue our effort of building this community, I'd love it for everyone (if you're comfortable) to reply to this, introducing yourself. What you might mention - Where you live / are from - What brought you to Grooves in the first place - What you enjoy doing - Something unique about you?

I'll start: I'm Will!! I started this app about 10 months ago. I've been obsessed with the idea of life improvement ever since college, when I first had a gym routine stick and saw positive results. I live in Austin, TX, where my girlfriend and I (and our 2 dogs) are in a constant fight for our lives against the Texas heat. I love reading, working on fun projects (like this one), and playing the piano.
A peek behind the curtain
Happy Friday! For those of you who know Tim and I, you are aware of the fact that we are both passionate about the mission we're on in building this app and community. At the same time, we're new here 🤓 and growing has been a real challenge for both of us. We each have our skillsets and unfortunately marketing and scaling a business is not (yet) natural to either of us. With that being said, I want to share a huge milestone. We recently hit 200 installs on the app store 🥳 I have large goals for the number of people we can help with this app, but even just imagining 200 human beings installing makes me recognize that we're doing something real here. If you know anyone who could use something like this, take this as a call to share it with them (and invite them into our little Skool community as well). Have a great weekend!

@Kimberly Delcorpo 🥳 Awesome!!
Weekly Hangouts
Tim and I have been talking about this group and how we can make it as beneficial as possible to all the members. I think one of the best ways is to have a one hour slot at least once every week for people to check-in and meet other people from the community. Think of it as accountability x support x making friends. With that being said - what time would work best for you? Feel free to shoot me a direct message if none of these work.

Unconventional habits
hey community 👋 wanted to share with yall what’s happening in my life behind the scenes. As a cofounder of Grooves with Will, the challenges I face with life outside of work are immense. I currently am dedicated to caring for both of my aging parents - both can’t do most things by themselves. More than anything my daily focus has been attending to their needs while also drawing a strict boundary that allows me to invest in my own. This hasn’t been easy. I default to having a savior or martyr complex if I don’t watch myself. I have to intentionally carve out time in the morning to remind myself that I need a certain number of hours to myself to invest in my own life. My habits therefore aren’t really ‘traditional’ but consist of making time for myself. I just want to encourage everyone that your habits don’t have to fit into a box. The power of habits I believe is controlling your time and making the most out of your day when so many things are pulling at you in every direction. Curious what might be an ‘unconventional’ habit you have on your list?

I agree 100%. One interesting one I have is "No Youtube". For some people youtube is a fun & exciting place to relax on, but for me it's dopamine purgatory. If I really want that type of entertainment, I prefer a TV show or movie, something I can invest my attention into where I don't feel hooked in and unable to stop.
High Standards, High Support
Today I was listening to a podcast with Joe Liemandt, the founder of Alpha School. Alpha School is built around the idea that students can learn traditional school subjects in about 2 hours a day through AI-led coursework, then spend the rest of their time developing real-world skills through projects, creativity, social interaction, fitness, and life experience. Sounds awesome. One of the ideas that stuck with me most was his concept of high standards and high support. Most people think there are only two options (because it's what we are used to seeing): Low standards, high support: You’re given endless tools, encouragement, and comfort, but nobody (including yourself) expects much from you. High standards, low support: You’re told to be exceptional, disciplined, and successful, but given no real process or guidance for how to get there. But there’s a third option: High standards and high support. A clear vision for what you’re capable of, combined with systems, structure, tools, and people that actually help you get there. I don't think this only applies to kids. It seems that most of us adults are also missing one of these. Either: 1. Our standards are too low. We've stopped imagining what our best life could actually look like. Or: 2. Our support is too low. We want to change without knowing how to change our environment, routines, systems, or accountability. The combination of high standards and high support is how we close the gap between where we are and the life we actually want to live. My struggle is often with standards. I'm good at following processes, but I often don't recognize what I could be capable of. To combat it, this week I am defining how I want my life to look when it comes to relationships, work, health, and fun. I'm keeping my standards HIGH as I do it 😄 Which side do you need to improve? Comment one specific way you’re going to raise either your standards or your support this week.
