What habits mean to me.
The first time I really became aware of habit building was deep pandemic. I’m sure some of you can relate to that strange moment when you realized the world has stopped and all of a sudden you’re left with these blank days. No groceries to run, no happy hour to goto. Just bare, desolate days of isolation. I remember at the time that a lot of people went to alcohol. I didn’t blame them. But I knew there and then that I wanted to make something positive out of that experience. It was around that time that I was introduced to Aubrey Marcus’s book: Own The Day. Inside there were an endless amount of out-of-the-box ideas and suggestions about things you can do, activities you can put into your schedule that promoted health and wellness. Honestly, I got a little obsessed! I made a schedule for my habits and practiced them every day. It definitely contributed to helping me through those dark times. But when I look back and reflect on those habits and those routines I stuck to day in day out. It wasn’t the breathwork or the meditation or the diet that made the biggest impact on who I was - it was the mere willpower I harnessed to create a life for myself inside the constraints of a lockdown. And I think that’s what the heart of this habit building journey for me and Grooves. It’s not about what habits you’re creating, it’s about what life do you want to live. Your life is the product of your habits. Today I’m in a similar situation. I’m here in Florida taking care of my elderly, disabled parents. I don’t know anyone and have limited time to do anything for myself. Sometimes it feels like a second lockdown. My habits are critical to me now. I need to make time to get out and do things socially - so every other day I have something planned for that and I stick to it. My habits are deliberately carving out time for me to live and have a life of my own outside of endless responsibilities of caring for my parents health. And if I didn’t have them I think I would a different person than I am now…

Intro invitation
Happy to be getting closer to the weekend 🥳 We've had a few people trickling into the group over the past few weeks, and I'm realizing that I don't know everyone here. To continue our effort of building this community, I'd love it for everyone (if you're comfortable) to reply to this, introducing yourself. What you might mention - Where you live / are from - What brought you to Grooves in the first place - What you enjoy doing - Something unique about you?

Hello everyone! 👋. I'm Tim, currently in sunny Sarasota FL. I'm the co-founder of Grooves with @William Mulvaney. I've actually attempted to create a habit tracking app in the past so when Will brought the idea of connecting daily habits with wellness impacts, I was sold! I enjoy the habit space because I see it as a way to manage my time on earth (that I hold as being very valuable). I also have ADHD so habit tracking helps me remember to the important little things! In addition to building Grooves, I enjoy playing pickleball, singing country music, painting, modifying bikes, crafting, building relationships and being of service to those in need. Something unique about me, I've never been able to burp! 🤢
A peek behind the curtain
Happy Friday! For those of you who know Tim and I, you are aware of the fact that we are both passionate about the mission we're on in building this app and community. At the same time, we're new here 🤓 and growing has been a real challenge for both of us. We each have our skillsets and unfortunately marketing and scaling a business is not (yet) natural to either of us. With that being said, I want to share a huge milestone. We recently hit 200 installs on the app store 🥳 I have large goals for the number of people we can help with this app, but even just imagining 200 human beings installing makes me recognize that we're doing something real here. If you know anyone who could use something like this, take this as a call to share it with them (and invite them into our little Skool community as well). Have a great weekend!

Unconventional habits
hey community 👋 wanted to share with yall what’s happening in my life behind the scenes. As a cofounder of Grooves with Will, the challenges I face with life outside of work are immense. I currently am dedicated to caring for both of my aging parents - both can’t do most things by themselves. More than anything my daily focus has been attending to their needs while also drawing a strict boundary that allows me to invest in my own. This hasn’t been easy. I default to having a savior or martyr complex if I don’t watch myself. I have to intentionally carve out time in the morning to remind myself that I need a certain number of hours to myself to invest in my own life. My habits therefore aren’t really ‘traditional’ but consist of making time for myself. I just want to encourage everyone that your habits don’t have to fit into a box. The power of habits I believe is controlling your time and making the most out of your day when so many things are pulling at you in every direction. Curious what might be an ‘unconventional’ habit you have on your list?

Habit Experiments
Yo @Timothy Bray! Any cool habits you've been trying out lately? My recent Grooves addition has been running & lifting 3x / week. I've done both for 5+ years, but I've never actually known the impacts both actions have on my mood, outlook, etc. I do know that I feel antsy when I go a day or two without any movement. Excited to see what I find out!

Yo @William Mulvaney ! That sounds awesome! For me: Nothing new apart from my regular routine - my challenge has been sticking to it despite some recent chaos 🤯
