Sell then create
#Core task 1 I'm going to pre-sale an offer in my newsletter. A sort of e-book option for 7โ‚ฌ that if they buy it during the pre-sale they get a sort of "office hours" opportunity where they can message me to ask questions and get feedback during those hours. My idea is that I'll create it when someone buys it. I'm not sure within a week will be the best time for this because of the holidays and stuff this month buuuuut I could offer it anyway just to try instead of waiting? ๐Ÿค” Which brings about the question: When do you wait because it doesn't seem a strategic business move to just do something with no preparation or pre-launch warming up of your potential buyers and when do you just try it anyway? ๐Ÿค”

@Helene Hostal I was able to sell it through my newsletter (I mean technically it was a sales email ๐Ÿ˜…). So, yeah I'm happy about it though I'm still testing and tweaking it.
Possible niches
#Reflection What's in my mind at the moment regarding possible niches. *Young adults (or not so young), Spanish L1 speakers, task-based approach, communicative approach, considering strongly emergent language but also text driven to give a little bit of structure to the learning experience. *Beginners or Intermediate *Learners who: -want to boost their confidence. -have pronunciation challenges. -don't know yet what career to pursue and want to explore their likes / dislikes / preferences / interests / concerns / motivations.. -want to travel to other countries. -want to better understand other places, people and cultures.

@Susan Davis Indeed. Knowing that and looking and marketing for that, I'll bet you can skip the parents. ๐Ÿ˜…

@Maria Barakat I have found it to be a slippery slope whenever I allow someone else to start dictating how my class is run. My alarm bells go off now when clients don't trust my expertise and I know that, for me, that client is not going to be a good fit to continue working with me.

#Overcoming Lack of a Niche The students that have been the most fulfilling to work with are ones that trust my teaching expertise, are interested in becoming stronger independent learners, and are willing and excited to experiment with new ways of learning.

@Danielle Black Totally! There's give and take.
Brainstorming time
#Reflection I think about creating my own course constantly although it's not something any students have ever asked for. They always ask for 1:1 classes so it's been on my mind but doesn't seem like something they want. They're assumptions I'm making. I can brainstorm a list of ideas today that could benefit the 1:1 clients I keep getting and see if any of those can be good course ideas. Did I think of 5 ideas before the day was over? Let's see! ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ’ก

@Alina Eliza Oh for sure! I understand the draw to 1:1 but as I've been thinking about it I also thought about how most of the conversations i have here in Spain are not 1:1. The reality is that you'll use the language in group conversations and being prepared for that, which is a whole other ballgame, is something students want and need too. It's just a matter of creating the course that fits that, marketing it in the right way, etc. ๐Ÿ˜…

@Andrew Woodbury I ended up going through a list of ideas I'd made in the summer of 2020. Many more than 5 and it reminded me that I'm not lacking in ideas. ๐Ÿ˜… I have not seen Malcolm Gladwell's talk. I will give it a listen.
Me improved :)
#Reflection: Ideal Future Self It's funny because whenever I do exercises like this I notice that I'm living where I want to live. I'm traveling where I want to travel. I'm having fun in English lessons with students. ... The thing that is missing is the making passive income while watching movies on the couch with my husband or taking a month off in summer and still supporting students without feeling like I need to be tied to my computer or a neverending supply of new students coming in.

@Andrew Woodbury Well, I guess in some ways I'm moving in the right direction. I do have a number of students working toward a specific result. ๐Ÿ™Œ
