The Stoic Dilemma #1: What Would You Do?
Imagine this... You've just finished a 12-hour workday. You're physically tired, mentally drained, and all you want to do is sit on the couch. But you promised yourself you'd train today. What do you do? There's no perfect answer, only the one you believe builds the strongest character. Cast your vote below, then jump into the comments and explain why you chose it. I'm curious to see how everyone approaches this.

The Stoic Dilemma #1: What Would You Do?
Train in the morning before work. That has always worked best for me.
🏛️ Sunday Stoa - The Obstacle Is The Way
One of the most well-known Stoic ideas comes from Marcus Aurelius: "The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." Every man will face obstacles. A setback in business. A missed workout. Financial pressure. Doubt. Failure. Most people see these as reasons to stop. A Stoic sees them as opportunities to grow. The obstacle isn't something standing between you and the man you want to become. It is the training required to become that man. This week, don't ask: "Why is this happening to me?" Ask: "What is this trying to teach me?" What's one obstacle you're facing right now, and how can it make you stronger instead of stopping you? Let's learn from each other below.
🏛️ Sunday Stoa - The Obstacle Is The Way
I think a lot of Stoics know the concept of obstacle is the way, but when the obstacle shows up in real life, they don't think, only react. When they react, they don't remember the concept and instead of moving forward, they fall backward. I like to call this the Observer. Rather than just drifting through life, I step back and observe my life as I live it. I detach so I can respond with thought. I try to keep my attention in the middle of my inner self and outer world so I can see what is happening. Then when I meet an obstacle, I see it as the way rather than a setback and can make a good, less emotional decision.
⚔️ Forge Trial #3: Keep Your Word
Last week, we challenged ourselves to win the week before it began by planning ahead instead of reacting. This week, we're taking the next step. A man's character isn't built by what he says he'll do. It's built by what he actually does. For the next 7 days, choose one promise to yourself. It could be: - Go to the gym every scheduled day. - Read 10 pages every morning. - Wake up at the same time each day. - Spend 15 minutes building your business. - Put your phone away before bed. Keep it simple. Keep it realistic. Then keep your word. Discipline isn't built through grand gestures. It's built by honoring the small promises you make to yourself every single day. ⚔️ Your mission: Comment below with the one promise you're committing to this week. Next Saturday, we'll check in and hold each other accountable. A man who keeps his word to himself becomes a man others can trust.
⚔️ Forge Trial #3: Keep Your Word
For me — publish a youtube video daily. Making content to build my audience, practice communication and learn to articulate my thoughts is probably my biggest area of opportunity.
My intro
I’m Doug. 45. I always respected the stoic philosophy but never really understood it. I’ve started looking at some quotes by Marcus Aurelius and they’ve really been making an impression on me. My main motivation to join this group was to try and use the stoic philosophy to instill me the discipline I need for my current endeavors. I wish to get physically fit, which requires dedication, and I’m learning the skills necessary to start a new business, which requires tremendous amounts of focus and perseverance. I don’t know if this group demands a tremendous amount of my attention, which if so, will be a little hard for me to give as I need to focus on my business, but I will routinely check in. I look forward to gaining the strength and encouragement I need for my goals, and of course, sharing it with others when I can.
Welcome brother
⚔️ Friday Brotherhood Check-In
The end of the week is a good time to ask yourself one question: Did your actions match the man you're trying to become? Progress isn't measured by having a perfect week. It's measured by keeping the promises you made to yourself when it would have been easier to quit, procrastinate, or make excuses. Every workout completed. Every difficult conversation you had. Every temptation you resisted. Those are the moments that forge character. Now it's time to look ahead. Vote in the poll below and let the brotherhood know where your primary focus will be next week. Then, in the comments, tell us one specific action you'll take to make sure you follow through. Small commitments. Consistent execution. Stronger men.

⚔️ Friday Brotherhood Check-In
About 4 years ago I made some notebooks and published them on Amazon. In total I've made about $40. It wasn't for the money, it was a project that I decided to see through. Everything about it was out of my comfort zone — learning KDP, making the notebooks, hiring a formatter and cover maker. But I did it. And the latest few dollars I got was a reminder that creating something once and selling it over and over again is a really good way to make life for future me easy. So this week I am going to make a 6 month plan for my business, choose a course and choose a book to work on over the next month and publish them to expand my passive income empire.
A while ago I made a list of book ideas and I updated them today. There are 40, but some may merge together. I think a goal of publishing one book a quarter would be good. I have outlines for about 6 of them. I'll choose one and commit to it and see it through. Next is write 2026 goals. One of my strengths is vision. I get lots of ideas and want to do so many things. But this is gift is completely unbalanced because I have very little patience for execution. Right now I have no choice but to do both on my own. In the future I will hire people to execute my ideas.
