How many of you have author websites, and which hosting platform did you use? Any do's and don'ts you would like to share?

How is an author suppose to make money when book signings ask for 40% commission? Is this normal commission sales for the book stores? I get that the book stores buy your book and you receive a commission on that sale but if you supply your own stock, does the book store still get the commission sale?

I had my first book signing on Saturday and sold 10 books (9 paperbacks and 1 hardback). I am so happy and proud of myself.
