I’d love a 20-minute Hot Seat. Here’s my matter: I keep noticing something in my single professional gay friends. They’re always working, especially on weekends. It reads to me like a quiet form of giving up, throwing themselves into the job instead of into connection. I almost see it as stages. The 25-year-old chasing the big title, putting in 60-plus-hour weeks. The 45-year-old, jaded and resentful that work still eats everything, and still single. The 62-year-old, wealthy and deeply lonely. At every step, too busy to build anything that lasts. I think it all comes down to avoidance. What I want to bring to the group is why this hits me as hard as it does, and how I keep it from quietly becoming my own story. Talk to you guys soon.

Hi everyone, Doyle here. Originally from Ireland, I made my way over to California in the '90s. These days I'm up in the Sierra foothills in Northern California in a little town called Plymouth, surrounded by hills made for hiking and the kind of quiet that makes you want to tell stories. Speaking of which, that's a lot of what I do for fun. I host a storytelling podcast called Spirit Talk Show, basically bedtime stories for grown-ups, and I've gotten to talk with the most fascinating people doing it. I'm also a proud dad to two sons, a teacher by day, and I sing in a gay chorus (and on the board), which has been one of the great joys of my life. There's something about making music with a room full of guys who get it. When I'm not behind a mic or in front of a class, you'll find me planning my next adventure. I'm a traveler at heart, headed across Europe later this month. I think my real superpower is helping people feel understood and a little more at peace, and I have a feeling I'm going to like it here. Happy to be in the room with all of you. Looking forward to swapping stories.
