The Manager You Become Shapes Your Team
A manager’s actions can either build someone’s confidence or make them afraid to speak up. A great leader creates a space where people feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning. But the wrong leadership style can make talented people doubt themselves and hold back. Great leaders don’t just manage tasks, they build people. They help their team become more confident, capable, and ready to grow. What leadership quality matters most in a manager?

Thank you, Kim, for sharing this question @Kim Ivy Busa I chose “Trust people to take ownership.” Not because everyone is already responsible, but because I believe everyone has the capacity to grow into it. In my experience, many people don’t lack ability. They lack belief in themselves. They hesitate to take ownership because they haven’t yet seen what they’re capable of. I don’t think great leadership is about doing everything or controlling everyone. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe to learn, make mistakes, discover their strengths, and gradually take responsibility for themselves. When people grow, responsibility stops feeling like an obligation and becomes a choice.
Value Isn’t Where We Begin
Lately, I’ve been hearing one idea over and over: “Create more value.” I believe that’s true. But the more I work with people, the more I realize that value is rarely where the journey begins. A few days ago, I met someone with years of experience solving problems for other businesses. They had knowledge. They had skills. They had credibility. Yet when the conversation turned to building something of their own, they could only see what they didn’t have. More money. More customers. More partners. More certainty. It made me realize something. Sometimes we don’t fail because we lack ability. We hesitate because we overlook the foundation we already have. That conversation reminded me of when I started my own small fitness studio. I didn’t have a beautiful facility or the latest equipment. I simply had my home. Instead of seeing it as “not enough,” I chose to see it as my starting point. Everything else grew from there. Today, I see the same pattern in coaching. Many people come to me wanting to lose weight or change their bodies. But before chasing the outcome, we first rebuild the foundation. Breathing. Movement. Awareness. Understanding how their own body works. Without that foundation, every result becomes difficult to sustain. It has made me wonder whether this is true far beyond fitness. Perhaps creating value doesn’t begin with having more. Perhaps it begins with recognizing what we already have and being willing to build from it. When we see our foundation clearly, we stop waiting for perfect conditions. We start learning. We start building. And over time, value becomes the result—not the starting point. Thank you to this community for reminding me that learning often begins with honest questions, shared experiences, and the courage to start before everything feels ready. ❤️

@Kim Ivy Busa I’m building a movement education company that helps women become autonomous by mastering their bodies, and one day grow into an ecosystem where clients, coaches, and founders learn, grow, and create value together.
This month's top contributors asked me these questions, and I answered!
"How do you grow an organization without losing the values that made it meaningful in the first place?" - @Thủy Lê This question explores one of the biggest challenges leaders face as they grow, scaling without losing the culture, purpose, and principles that made people believe in the mission from the start. Thank you to our Top Contributors for asking thoughtful questions that spark meaningful conversations. Your curiosity and commitment to growth help make #BelieveNation a place where everyone can learn together. #Believe

Thank you, @Evan Carmichael thank you for taking the time to pronounce my name correctly—it’s “Thwee Lay.” I truly appreciate that. What stayed with me most is that our values are revealed in the difficult decisions, not the easy ones. I’m building my business around the philosophy of autonomy, and your answer reminded me that my values must guide every decision, even when it costs me opportunities or slows my growth. It also reminded me that autonomy isn’t just something I want to teach my clients it’s something I must practice as a founder. Building a values-driven business means making decisions that stay true to my principles, even when no one is watching. Thank you for this powerful reminder.
