Live Performance Mixers
I've recorded this video in October, but I've been so busy it took me forever to finish it. But here's my take on the Mackie 1604 VLZ4 Pro analog mixer and why you may want to use one for live performances. Thanks to @Peter de Haan for letting me use his eurorack effectsbox 😁

Thank you for the video. Back in the 90s and 2000s, when I was working with keyboards, samplers and drum computers, all with lots of individual outputs, I opted for a Mackie LM3204 stage mixer and the option of doubling the mixer with an expander in mind. At the time, I should have gone for the VLZ-Series too, as for the LM-stage mixer. Because of the greater flexibility in the sends/returns and especially for the groups. That's why I found the video very interesting to watch, using groups, buildup ect.

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam Yes and my Ensoniq EPS16+ had an OEX-8 Output Expander - so I had 5 Stereo-Pairs ( e.g. 10 Mono ..for him)
Gear expansion
Well I'm a bad boy I expanded my rack. I bougt all used at like half the price . So will be very busy this year exploring , learnin and making sounds and Berlin School style tracks. So any one else get some gear?

Update number 3 is currently in development. As usual, I'm on the hunt for used equipment: I've already purchased the following: • 1x Intellijel MixUp • 2x 2hp - Joranalouge Link2 - BuffMult (I only intend to use these for audio, such as mono normalisation + copy, so as not to block other modules) • 1x Xaoc - Ostrawa • 1x Xaoc - Bohumin Exp. In my large home base, these modules will physically expand Sopot/Minsk (I can remove individual ones for projects). My focus with the module combo is: * Building a submixer for: * Creating cleaner FX submixes * Gain more control over the mix by giving the FX return, or something like the Texturiser, its own channel. Next to the instrument channel. The MixUp is just a tool for mixing copies for the FX-sends behind the instrument. New for me to learn/practice is the possibility at Ostrawa/Bohumin: * Pre/post fader *Level control of returns, etc. For the first time, I will be able to add an FX signal "on its own" without a source...

Apologies for the lengthy text – but it is intended to show what stage of development I am at as a beginner. My fellow musician commented: No mixer without faders! I agree with him when it comes to my DrumSkiff. But not when it comes to my choice of FX submixer... I also have a lot of CV on the Ostrawa/Bohumin – no problem integrating long faders via CV, automating mutes if you want to – but still relatively few HP and few potentiometer pins, mostly solid knobs...
Korg MS-20 mini overlay installed.
I can see my MS-20 again :-) After on left before on right (while I loved the look I can no longer see the making on the orginal.

Nice 😍
Mobile Modular Case Dimensions
For all of you that travel with your Eurorack systems. What case do you use? I'm thinking about making a suitcase model, 104HP wide, 7u tall. 86hp feels a bit cramped, I think.

Tip: One trip is 1,800 km for me. Upon arrival, I move each case to check whether the module or PSU screw connections have come loose completely. After the return journey of 3,600 km, it is advisable to remove the modules and check for loose connections. (Despite padded softback and additional blankets in the car for vibration protection!) Check your modules every 3,000 km, folks 🤓‼️ 🤣

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam Yes. Mostly enough for 1 Projekt, but often it needs e.g. a KeyStepPro (external Controller / PC?) or in my Case one 104 row more, for Sequencer + handsOn Control - in my Case - wanting some choices - not a dedicated one Projekt setup..

The whole thing can be seen as a "home base" that is transportable for my travels. (Otherwise, a large custom-built case would have been the more economical solution). • A second Behringer Go was added. This means I don't have to constantly change the large modules such as MAGNETO / Furthrrrr/ Elements/PolyGogo Bay and can keep them powered up. • If I have a fixed project, I can move modules into a 7U-104hp case + a 104hp Moog skiff to ensure reasonable mobility ... I really appreciate it when brands offer DIY kits – that's why I love Patching Panda, for example 🐼 – whose latest modules are also available as DIY kits and are very interesting from a technical point of view... I even prefer to solder them myself...

In the 1990s and 2000s, I used DAW Emagic Logic Professional. Today, I work DAWless (because I invest my budget in modules rather than PCs, and secondly, I don't feel like learning new software and buying peripherals such as audio converters). • I do have a Tascam Model 24, which allows me to record directly without a PC. However, I only record single takes without editing, 2-track stereo. Main reason: I would like to have 4-6 stereo send/returns 🤣. • My modular system does not yet have any fancy "mixers". Just a Cosmix Pro for the DrumSkiff. I'm considering getting a second one for vocals/chords/stabs/bass... • The first step, however, will be submixers (such as Vostok Hive) to better integrate complex oscillators. • Otherwise, my modular signals go to Endorphine 2x1U Cockpit + 1x 1U GoldenMaster (PCB-chained) on the stereo output of the MI case. It's a static mix, but with EQ, some compressor and sidechain options...

I was active around 1991-20xx with MS-10/Crumar DS-2/Ensoniq EPS 16+/Kawai K5000S.. Then I took a long break from music. Rejoined Modular around 2020
