Outcome Obsession Is the Fastest Way to Fail
Most professionals think the secret to success is obsessing over the goal. “I just need to land the role.” “If I can get this promotion, I’ll finally feel confident.” “This one pitch has to work.” I’ve coached dozens of high performers through this mindset. And here’s the pattern I always see: The more attached you are to the outcome, the harder it is to show up fully for the process that gets you there. The irony? You get so fixated on the prize at the end that you completely miss the steps that would win it. Your attention gets scattered. Your energy leaks. Your confidence wavers. Because every time the goal feels far away… You start to believe you’re far from capable. Let me offer a reframe: Your goal isn’t the goal. Your daily process is. The outcome? It’ll take care of itself if you show up consistently for the right things. Ask yourself: “What does winning look like today?” And here’s what I suggest: The Core Four 1. Give 100% of what I have today. 2. Be fully present. 3. Express gratitude. 4. Focus on my routines and only what I can control. Simple. But powerful. Because when you lead with process, not pressure: • Your mind clears, you're more at peace because you’re not worrying about the future. • Your focus sharpens • Your performance improves • And your results? They follow This is how you break free from outcome obsession. You stop trying to win the future and start mastering the moment you’re in. Because the truth is: The person who crushes their process… gets the prize without chasing it. Get out there and crush it today. :) Rooting for you, Kris

I agree with you 💯! When looking for that next role or opportunity it’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of the day-to-day job search. I believe that we wouldn’t be in this community if we didn’t know there is something more to come. With that being said because we are high performers, I’m sure we have all added that extra pressure only to have it blow up in our face. Stay confident; I’ve realized that during my search that the roller coaster of emotions is going to happen, emotions are real, but I’ve come to be at peace with knowing by doing the work the right opportunities will present themselves. You just have to be in the moment to notice it. Stay true to what you want, you deserve it! Great pieces of advice.

Hello everyone! Glad to be joining you all here. I’m Tavis and have been working with Kris since April ‘25. I have been leading high performing sales and operations teams for over 25 years and made every mistake you can! My career has taken some turns and I’ve made some industry changes; 10 years in the Fitness industry to my current position for the last 16 years as Company President with U-Haul where I oversee a large part of Colorado. I grew up in small farming community in ND and was taught loyalty from a very young age. Now I question that unfortunately, but that brings to now!😎 I started working with Kris after a few life moments happened and I found myself questioning; am I doing what I love and for the right reasons? Will I achieve my goals here? Conclusion: Although I enjoy my team and company, I see myself going a different direction. It is hard to believe that after 16 years in one place I’m saying “let’s try something new!” 😱However I’ve always been the curious one that will try anything and crave to learn more so maybe I should be more surprised that it’s been 16 years😂! See there is that damn loyalty thing! Working through these changes has been a challenge, but while going through much self reflection I realized why I was struggling and feeling so exhausted. We are really good at achieving, running the hamster wheel, and burning out. Working with Kris has helped me find my passion again and why I chose to lead, mentor, support, and motivate others. It has helped me continue in my day to day, all while still looking for a better fit and ultimately my next career goal as VP or Regional VP then to my ultimate goal as CEO. I’ve learned a lot about myself over these last few months and just how much I have changed in management style and strategy. We must always be adapting and aware of the changes around us; be curious, be a student of life, recognize those around you and be in the moment. I trust everyone has felt the frustration during the search and I’m no different. I look forward to hearing your stories, learning from each and every one of you and making new connections. Thanks for having me!
