New Release - Send Someone
🎶 New Release: “Send Someone” - The JR Band https://open.spotify.com/album/0J4V2b3V6cYKYJ279qkz5c?si=uz2d505RQ0mP-NV6eTGBFA I'm happy to share our latest single, “Send Someone,” released today, October 23! This is an original acoustic folk/Americana ballad inspired in part by the film Once. It's a reflective song about life's experiences, human connection, and finding someone to share the journey. The recording features some wonderful musicians: - 🎸 Randy Juhl – Lead vocals, acoustic guitar, songwriting, production, mixing & mastering - 🪕 John Timko – Mandolin - 🎻 Kelly Sible – Violin - 🎵 Bob Rostollan – Upright bass - 🎸 Luke Cyrus Goetze – Lap steel guitar (recorded remotely in Germany) I recorded, mixed, and mastered the song at Heart Street Studio, applying many of the techniques and concepts I've learned through Mastering.com and The Reverse Engineer program. This project was particularly rewarding from a production standpoint, especially working with the acoustic instrumentation, balancing the vocal, and creating a natural, spacious mix. A special thanks to the mentors and everyone in this community who continues to share their knowledge and experience. Thanks for listening and as always, feedback is welcome!

you've earned another listener. Well done!
Vocal mistakes?
I recorded this before the vocal intensive. I didn’t edit some things like I should have. This recording and mix was a personal challenge. I’ve never made a hiphop track before and I recorded my 10 year old niece. I made this on beat maker 3 then moved it over to the DAW to record real instruments and sound effects. I hear things now I should have fixed before the mix. What do you hear? Taking my time to get better at this engineering stuff with the time I have. Thank you and Happy Friday 😎

this track has given me deep insights into my own life But yeah, I do think there's some timing stuff in the vocals that could be fixed, but your niece sang great for just 10 years old! And the recording quality sounds just fine to me. I'm not really familiar with the genre, so I could be missing something, but to me it sounds

Comparing your work
I've noticed something interesting that I wanted to share. When I'm in a streak of comparing my tracks to tracks I hear on Spotify, I'm sometimes inspired. Most of the time, though, I'm discouraged because my work will never be that good. When I compare my own work to my past work, though, it is very encouraging, because progress is abundantly evident. I'd really recommend going through some of the tracks you've mixed, produced, and mastered in the past, and comparing them to what you've made recently. Tell me if it works for you! Also, do you think it's best to separate listening to popular tracks and working? Does it discourage you as well when you compare yourself to others?

Free but helpful
What's the most helpful free thing you've ever downloaded or earned? For me, it's probably Shreddage Stratus 3 Free by Impact Soundworks. I use it for every guitar rhythym or solo. Also for bass I use their Precision Free.

@Tom Baldwin Yeah, YouTube is extremely helpful. Personally I've never had the experience you described, since I'm more the producer type myself, and I really don't specialize in mixing or mastering whatsoever, but I get what you mean. When I listen to something by Twenty One Pilots or Imagine Dragons, it really inspires me to improve so I can reach their level. I kinda meant tools that you use in your workflow, though, like plugins or DAWs. Do you have a 1# among those?
Waveform users pls help
I've tried adjusting knobs in my plugins in real time, but even with automation read and automation write modes on, it doesn't record the automation. Did this happen to anyone else, is it just an unrelated issue, and did anyone figure it out? I'm kinda stumped.
