When was the last time you consciously evaluated all of your monthly payments? We're working through the September Kickoff in Money Made Simple so we can feel good about our finances heading into the busy (and often expensive) holiday season. This week we're focused on organizing our financial clutter. Subscriptions and recurring expenses can definitely land in the clutter category! Here's our task for today: Look through all your bank/credit card transactions and identify recurring charges. Ask... Do I still use it? Do I still value it? Would I sign up for it again today? I'm not suggesting you cancel everything, but you should cancel things you answer NO to. We all (I'm talking to myself, too!) need to stop paying for things we aren't really using or don't value. If you choose to keep paying, do it intentionally. We often get in the habit of paying for these recurring items without stopping to consider them. If I look at my statement and see three things I'm sort of meh about, I could cancel and keep $30 in my account every month. That money could go to investments, savings, or make the grocery budget a little less restrictive. I talk a lot about thoughtful, conscious spending, and these automatic recurring payments make that hard to do if we don't go back and evaluate. Use your time today to make sure you're consciously paying for those every month.
