Swales! One year of Swales on my Farm
Fighting back the desert on this farm has been paramount. For 30 years this once-abundant farm has been turning to desert due to mismanagement. Today I install swales to capture and store water and plant fruit trees. Follow the full design, installation, and ongoing management of the system. Please feel free to like, comment and share! Helps video grow. Thanks ! Stefano

Are you planting on the higher elevation side of the swale? I always thought you built up the soil on the low side to slow the water and prevent erosion of the mound. Not that I’ve ever done it, I guess perhaps I’ve simply misunderstood the process.

@Stefano Creatini okay, that’s what I thought, but I couldn’t properly ascertain the slope of the land in the video. Great content, thanks for answering, and for sharing! We are planning to buy land in a place will most likely be gently sloping, so this technique will be very useful!
introduction
I'm based in Ireland, have a small urban property <1/10 acre, which I'm still developing. I love hearing about what people are up to in the permaculture world via my podcast, The Permaculture Vine. I am here to learn and connect with others.

@Cormac Harkin yikes, that’s much too cold for me! 😅 How hot does it get in the summertime?

Oh my! Your high is just above my tolerance for low! 🙃 When I plan a trip, it will certainly have to be in the peak of summer! ☀️
