How I get Sh*t done as an ADD entrepreneur
As some of you might know, I grew up with ADD, but only got diagnosed around age 21. That meant that during primary school and high school I struggled a lot with staying focused at school. But I didn't know why and I didn't know how to deal with the problem. I did okay in school, but it took a lot of effort, specifically for maths and science lessons. Today I am truly grateful for my ADD and the way my brain works, I have learned how to deal with it and how to optimise my day for maximum efficiency. I have 3 simple rules that I live by and that have helped my tremendously over the years to increase my productivity and enjoyment in everything I do. šŸ) š— š—®š—øš—² š—¶š˜ š—³š˜‚š—» I genuinely hate doing admin work. But it's what keeps you in business, so even if you hate it, it still needs to be done. So one day I asked myself "How can I make this more fun?". So I put on my headphones and started playing some of my favourite Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter soundtracks in the background. There something about putting on headphones that allow me to block out distractions instantly and those soft, epic and magical tunes in the background that sweep me into flow state. I now have an 18 hour long playlist with all kinds of cinematic music and music from artists like Ludovico Einaudi, etc. šŸ®) š——š—¼š—»'š˜ š—·š˜‚š—ŗš—½ š—³š—暝—¼š—ŗ š—¼š—»š—² š˜š—µš—¶š—»š—“ š˜š—¼ š˜š—µš—² š—»š—²š˜…š˜ This one speaks for itself and you might be thinking DUH. But you would be surprised at how often you get interrupted by random thoughts, other people, notifications, ... and how long it takes you to return to your flow state. Besides turning notifications off and letting people know that they can't disturb you, if for example you're wearing your headphones. One other cure for this is a concept that's called "Timeboxing". I've learned about timeboxing from Nir Eyal (writer of "Indistractable"). And it essentially says that you should do batch work as much as possible and at the right timing.

@Aprill Ralowicz Ooh I'm excited for your journey ahead! Getting the diagnosis really helped me with accepting myself and how I could shift things to work in my favour instead of "forcing the way everyone does it" on myself. What's your main struggle right now?

@Bill Widmer Agreed, it takes a lot of trial and error 😁

It's been quiet šŸ‘€ here's what's going on
Hey founders, real talk; Running a business with ADHD has it's challenges. Who knew?! But my ADHD isn't the reason I've gone quiet in here. It's actually because, since Rex and I split, I've needed to refocus my efforts on my main business: SEO for B2B SaaS. I've been doing SEO for nearly 14 years now. I've worked with companies like Monday, Oberlo, AppSumo, Ahrefs and, currently, Semrush. SEO was my second love (writing was my first). My runway for running the experiment of making this Skool community my full-time focus dried up a few months ago, and I've had to refocus on my main income earner. I've absolutely loved building this community - especially the defining moments, like celebrating getting the star and becoming a top 1% community with @Tommy Gan and @Izzy Piyale-Sheard. The past year has given me many moments to be really proud of. And many moments that made me want to rip my hair out. (Typical entrepreneurship!) Anyway, here's what that means for this community going forward: I'll commit to writing one post per week. No more, no less. I'd rather show up consistently with something real than try to run a full curriculum I can't sustain. You'll get my honest observations from the trenches of building a freelance SEO business with ADHD, including what's working, what's blowing up in my face, and what I'm learning about SEO in the age of AI. I'm also committed to being there for the Momentum Lab members. @Jen Ritchie @Alena SladkovskĆ” @Emily Satel @Rachel Hasson @Stijn Van Den Bossche @Amber Kay. We've been meeting twice a week every week since this thing started, and they've done some cool shit. (Shout out to Jen for doing her 5-day challenge launch and hitting her MRR target! And to Emily for starting her private practice, to Rachel for launching her new offer and bringing in some new clients, to Amber for massively increasing her prices and finally bringing in a livable wage from her business.)

āœ‹ The "just touch it" rule for habits that actually stick
I have a rule I live by for any habit I'm trying to build. šŸ‘‰ Just touch it. šŸŽ¹ Want to play piano every day? Touch the piano. Hands on the keys. That counts. If you want to play for an hour after that, great. If you want to walk away after five seconds, also great. 🧘 Want to meditate? Sit on the cushion. Ass down. That counts. Get up immediately if you want to. 🤸 Want to move your body every morning? Stand up and stretch your arms over your head. Done. Most people fail at habits because they set the bar at "do the full thing well, every time." That bar is high enough that any rough day breaks the streak. And once the streak breaks, the habit dies. The bar that builds habits is "show up at all." A 10-second yoga flow is infinitely more valuable than a 30-minute flow you skipped because you didn't have time. šŸ”„ The streak creates the identity. šŸ”„ The identity creates the consistency. šŸ”„ The consistency creates the actual results. Touch it. Every day. Even if all you do is touch it. šŸ’¬ What's one habit you keep dropping because you set the bar too high? Drop it in the comments and let's set a "just touch it" version.

That's great advice! The habit I keep dropping and picking up again is stretching first thing in the morning. "Just touch it" is great advice, because the reason I keep dropping it because I tend to just get my ass in the chair first thing and I simply forget, until it's too late and I don't have enough time left.

@Bill Widmer I’ve tried that to put my yoga mat in plain sight, but my wife can’t stand clutter haha so she always moves it out of sight again
Momentum Monday: What's Your Big Goal This Week? šŸš€
Happy Monday, Founders! You know what time it is - time to announce your goal for the week to hold each other accountable! This week, I am beginning a cold email campaign for my B2B SaaS SEO/AEO services. I learned a ton about how to do this from the course I'm taking by @Mark Webster over at Authority Hacker. My hope is that I'll close a client from this by the end of next week. But we shall see! What's your one thing this week?

@Alena SladkovskĆ” It’s important to remember that it’s impossible for you to serve every Czech person with ADHD, and for that other person as well. @Elizabeth Hadzic said it well that some people will vibe with your stuff and other people will vibe with the other person. And after all, isn’t her existence a real validation that there’s an actual need for what you’re doing and that there’s already people out there paying for those services?

My one thing this week is getting back to starting new conversations and eventually inviting those people to calls. But I need to ask better questions before I invite them, so getting on a call with me doesn’t feel like a ā€œwould be nice to doā€ but a ā€œmust doā€ next step for their business. The aim to start 10 new conversations over the week. šŸ™
Reflection Friday: Did you do your ONE thing?
Happy Friday, founders! Monday you committed. Today you tell the truth. Did you do it? Yes or no. No judgement, just data. Then, one line on what pattern you noticed in yourself this week. Drop it in the comments!

@Alena SladkovskĆ” thanks for giving me a nudge haha 😁 I had a busy week catching up with everything off Skool, so next week I could be here distraction free. I completed everything I set out to do (3 prices quotes, 1 design and adjusting an existing design and answering some long overdue emails) What stood out for me this week is that I really need to protect my time. I scheduled an entire day to work from home (Friday) and all week I was being tempted to fill it with other to do’s. I resisted my temptation by reminding myself why I had scheduled that work from home day -> to be able to commit to Skool distraction free next week
