Kev's video, which style?
https://youtube.com/watch?v=H3HWtlwdDN4&is=1qKZKa8HX03DGuUl This is a great video. Thats what I really love about Pétanque. Everyone has their own style. Each is as unique as a finger print. If I have a match pause in a competition I enjoy studying other people's style. Incredibly fascinating. Personally I don't copy anyone in particular.

Competition reports
Let’s have your reports on the weekend. Did you WIN OR LEARN? For me, I was filming this weekend at Auch and learnt a LOT about French strategy and how they can be exposed sometimes. During the week I played twice with a local guy who is a bit of a lost case. No one really wants to play with him as he is so erratic it’s crazy. I won both meat competitions with him as it was a deliberate idea to bring out my best game. It forced me to play as close to 100% as I could in the shooting position and whilst we had 1/2 easy ish games the others were epic battles in the dark. Once I had the jack I threw it into the nightmare places that no one goes! Next to the string in case I needed to shoot the jack if he dropped 3 points…..I had to do this multiple times. And whilst it’s only a 3 game competition for meat it’s highly contested and I won lots of respect for my strategic play, accepting my partner and my utter determination NOT to lose. He was happy as he has not won anything for ages and went around telling everyone how great he was 🤣

Mine was on Sunday. District Premier league as it translates over from German. Last game of the season. There's 10 teams in our league. We are sitting comfortably at 5th. 3 of our top players were away meaning we had to borrow 2/3 members from the lower division team. All good. They did excellently. I was encouraging them to all communicate better within the team so they had better team cohesion. We won 2 of the 3 rounds for the day. Long day. Started at 930am, finished at 7pm. Personally I didn't have much shooting confidence. I play Milleu. I hit a few but missed the same amount too. Pointing was ok'ish. The top 4 teams in the division are excellent. We won our triplette against the division leaders. Their shooter wasn't on form so we used that chance. One Doublette match we won was done with several Hoch-Portée at 9m. Very happy with that. Weather was dry, 21c, windy. Learning? Train more shooting of course. Pointing is good for me. Team atmosphere is good for the Premier league team. I'm involved with arranging the players into Doublette and Triplette constellations. Worked well. Happy.
Recovery
I have not felt like practicing lately, and i use to do it ALOT, so i promised myself to leave the boules on my shelf a couple of days. (I think 3days) Just to see if i get more motivated. Today when i started up my practice if felt really good, maby not 100% motivated but the flow in my arm, feeling in the routine, release and eye focus were spot on. So what is your take on motivation and taking some recovery days from time to time? When it comes to physical training its really important. So maby the brain/musclememory need this rest to?

There's also the plateau effect. Where nothing is improving for ages. Even perhaps getting worse. In my experience in Boule and my other sport, a rest can do wonders if you're practicing too much and begin to feel numb to training/competition feedback.
Competition reports
Let’s have your reports from this weekend. What went well and what didn’t. What did you learn? For me I played a different comp every evening this week and was tinkering with my gesture. Nothing huge just attempting to replicate Kantaros style. I got battered today by a MUCH better team and I learnt that I need to change tactics much quicker when my instincts kick in. In addition I don’t need to focus so much on boule to boule shooting IF the terrain allows for rafle style as I only just beat a team who shot every boule that way with a high percentage of carreau and they didn’t care.

@Gabor Verebelyi oh yes, many times. Just have to get back up, dust yourself off and reset. Playing out of your comfort zones is a good training opportunity. It's how you deal with it at the end of the day. Limehouse? I'm an Essex boy. Commuted into Fenchurch Street for decades. Never knew of a Piste there. We played mostly over in Ealing .
Shooting feedback
I'm always practising on my shooting. Something I really want to improve 10 fold this year. Now, everyone says that the lead foot on the side you shoot from, in my case right, should point towards the target boule. All good, however I regularly miss the target 2cm to the right nearly everytime. I must say its consistent, so something is good. The length of the shot is also bang on, every time, just always a bit right. It's never left. So this must be telling me something. Any thoughts Kevin?

Kevin, thank you for this offer. As soon as I have a quiet moment on one of our pistes I'll do that. Very kind of you.

Gabor, thanks. In my other sport you have to do the process without thought, so I am successfully applying it here in Petanque too. I can't stand too far left as I am a tall fella and my feet are not small, so there isn't much space on the left in the Ring. I'll have the normal tinker around. If I hit gold then I'll let you know.
