The Overthinker
Today im gonna share another problem i have. I think i put pressure on myself several days before a tournament. Then when i arrive and the match starts i choke a bit. Dont follow through my shots, miss, have a much lower % than in my practice. This gets me so disappointed and sad. Leaving the tournament with a bad feeling. How shuld i lower my expectations before tournaments? I want to play good soooo bad that i cant play good 😊. Silly! I try to tell myself ”its only a game” but i carr to much.

@Kevin ORourke im absolutely not afriad to lose, this i know for sure. I only get sad when i play bad. So the pressure is just about my own boules. Ive come home from games/toutnaments were i lost, but i played really good. Then i feel satisfied and happy. Litte strange maby. My own analysis is that i want to show others that i can play. Not the end result. But i dont know how to stop thinking like this.

@Stephen Daykin Thanks, good stuff 👍👍. I really get that your reaction shapes the emotion. I think that can be a key. And i think it escalates both as nagative and positive. If i react bad to a shot, talking negative out load , my self esteem and trust in myself will go away. And vice versa in positive direction. I really need to change my inner voice and focus. It will take time, easy to fall back to old habits(punishment) I liked the comment…Your mind can’t hold a positive and negative thought at the same time. 👍👍👍 So next tournament (Saturday) ill try to think about this.
Disaster!
On my way home from competition. Swedish Cup qualifier. Today i played embarrassingly bad. No heart raise or feeling nervous. Just was not there in my mind. But i found it hard to fokus, it was like my usual ritual och routine was gone. Must be some kind of stress anyway. Shuld have had coach @Kevin ORourke by my side . This is depressing 😥

@Kevin ORourke i agree, Its not the money you spend that counts. Ive had about 4-5 sets of ms 2110. I think that’s a perfect fit for me, in the way i throw, with my amount of spin… and so on. And this is one of the cheapest boules. But its so fun to try other boules. 😎

Your Playing Partners
In my first full year of pétanque I played with a lot of different teams (13). As I wasn’t an established player with a set team, I became a pétanque nomad, different team every competition. Some were a great laugh , some very negative, other were indecisive, and some were constructive. This year I have been approached and asked to join 4 different teams. How do you go about selecting the team you’ll play with for the year? How do you guys decide who to play with?

If i know im signing up for many tournaments over the year with the same team i would rather choose laughter over skill. I think if you get along as a team and have fun you will play better . Then its of course a matter of ambition. If you only thinking results in the short term you need to find good teammates and a good balanced team. My vote is, go for joy and laughter then the results will come 😊
Just for fun… A Match scenario!
Lets say its a tight match, score is 11-12. You are the only one standing with one boule left. The opponent have the point in this round but it is like 1,5m from the jack. And you have the 2nd and 3rd boule. So shoot to win or point safe and play a new round at 12-12? Wich will you choose and why? Does it matter to you if its 6,8 or 10 meters? Happy friday all!

@Kostas Karatsalos i totally agree on what you are saying. There is so many variables in the game. But i wish i would get the courage to always 100% go for the shot in this scenario. Because in the long run this is a win win situation. 1.if you shoot and hit, you win and you will be proud of that decision. 2. If you shoot and miss you shuld be proud that you dare to go for the win, proud of getting out of your comfort zone. And if you choose to point and the score get to 12-12 then its actually a gamble. Because in this final round you get to start, and if all players in both teams succeed with all their throws, the opponent will get 1point. This is of course just in theory and i know that not many rounds are 100%. But in s singles game its absolutely a likely scenario. Just a way to think about it 😊
