Which British Standard is primarily used to test penetration seals for services?
Poll

Answer D. BS EN 1366-3 is the European harmonised standard for testing penetration seals involving pipes, cables, and mixed services. BS 8214 relates to fire doors, BS 9999 provides fire safety guidance for building design and management, and BS 476-7 addresses surface spread of flame. Experienced installers must understand which standards underpin product performance to interpret test reports correctly and ensure installations match certified systems.

Which document defines the permitted variations for a tested passive fire protection system?

Answer -C The Field of Application (FOA), sometimes referred to as EXAP, defines how far a tested system may be varied beyond the exact test configuration. This includes permitted changes to service size, spacing, substrate thickness, and orientation. FOA documents are derived from BS EN 1366 testing and must be used to confirm compliance. Method statements and checklists do not extend test evidence. Experienced installers must understand FOA limits to avoid untested installations that invalidate performance claims under Approved Document B.

Put Your Resource links Here.
This discussion could well be the most valuable resource for everyone in this group. As admin we’ll be copying links here to assist everyone in finding answers to everyday issues we all come across and we hope that you’ll do the same. We are specifically looking for links to Regulation, Legislation and standards, along with manufacturer materials of all types from standard details to D.O.P’s and H&S Guidance, in fact anything that can or may influence the way we all carry out our duties in the passive fire sector. To kick off we’re starting with a link to the foundation of everything we do, UK Building Regulations Part B (inc all revisions and updates):- https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fire-safety-approved-document-b And what will be one of the newest and most eagerly awaited Standards in the Passive Fire Protection sector, BS 9994 Fire Strategies in buildings. Keep an eye on how this standard takes shape to gain an understanding of how BS and EN standards and norms shape how the sector operates within these guidelines. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fire-engineering-profession-reform/next-steps-on-fire-engineering-profession-reform
