Why your first YouTube income probably will not come from AdSense
AdSense is worth chasing. The passive income is real and it compounds. But it takes time to qualify and even longer to pay meaningfully, and most people have something more valuable sitting unused while they wait. If your content teaches something, viewers will pay for one-to-one help with their specific situation. This works at 500 subscribers. It does not require a big audience, just a clear offer and a way to book. Calendly handles the logistics. The free tier is enough to test demand. You will probably want the paid version once you are taking payments through the platform, but there is no reason to spend anything until you know people are booking. The part most beginners miss is saying it out loud in the video. Not just a link in the description. A direct spoken line near the end telling viewers exactly what you offer and how to get it. That one habit is usually the difference between a channel that earns and one that just grows. Run both in parallel. Just do not wait for AdSense to be your starting point.

Spot on @Des Dreckett If you've the solution to someone's problem, it'd be a crying shame to not tell them about it.
Starting Over
April 10, 2026. 08:20. South of Bangkok, Thailand. Hey, I'm Steve, 59 years old... a quick introduction. At 57, I had been laying floors in the UK for 4 decades. And my legs had pretty much had enough. During the great Covid reset, it dawned on me that I would not be physically capable of carrying out my work for much longer. So, having always dreamt of a life of working from anywhere, It was time to learn new skills. Ones that didn't require me to crawl around on all fours for 8 hrs a day. Subsequently, I have now turned into an online marketing and email nerd... And I am starting a new YouTube channel and business at the same time. I am looking forward to connecting with you all – hoping to grow my channel and provide value to the community while learning from Alexa and all of you. P.S. I moved to Thailand 15 months ago. My knees thank me on a daily basis.

@Jenny Sharratt Thank you. It's tough, isn't it, feeling stuck in a job you've outgrown. Well, you've taken the first steps in starting your channel and gained another subscriber. Keep up the posting, and I look forward to following your success.
YouTube isn't too crowded. Most people just give up.
Here's something worth remembering when doubt creeps in. 2.7 billion people use YouTube every month. But only around 4.4% of them actually create and upload videos. And of those who do start, 70% go quiet within the first six months. That means the vast majority of your "competition" has already walked away. You don't need to be the best creator in your niche. You just need to outlast the ones who quit. If you're still here, still posting, still improving, you're already in a small minority. The platform isn't oversaturated. It's underlived. What's kept you going past the point where most people stop?

New here. Just beginning the journey. Staying focused and being consistent is my main goal.
