Looking for topics to bring in experts on...
One of the big things I want to do for this community is bring in experts on various topics you want to know about. My goal will be to have calls that you can ask questions and get immediate answers and they are recorded for future use if needed. I'm not an expert so I'll be relying on others in various areas to bring us that expertise. So question is...what do you want to hear about? It can be generic info for a season...like spring prep or winter prep. Or we could do something specific like breeding, showing chickens, etc. The sky is the limit as I know we have a lot of great people here with expertise. I have already talked with a couple that are willing to come on and help. So let us know in the comments. Anything is possible. Don't hold back. And if you see a comment that sparks interest, expand on it for others. Looking forward to seeing what we come up with!

@Tracey Jennings Showing chickens is really fun, but also a lot of work that you don't even realize when you first start doing it. We just started showing last year and plan to go to more shows this year. For us it is about picking the best in our flocks and not trying to show too many birds at one show - for our own sake lol If you have an opportunity to go to a show, chicken show peeps are more than happy to talk with you and share information and teach you things. Even going to county fairs, etc., you will find a lot of really helpful people and learn a lot. It is a great community of people. MOST people are really kind and caring, you definitely get the competitive snobs, but that is really more rare.
Who has the craziest chicken names?
I've seen some very cool names and thought it would be good see what we have here. Here's a couple we have had over the years... - Large Marge (our brahma) - Lil Peep - Cluck Norris - Blackie Chan - Lewis and Clark (2 of them that always explored far away)

I can't say the name of the first Rooster we had in a family forum lol But we rescued a few beautiful Easter Eggers named Tulip, Eggatha and Mrs. Blackbeard. The children of the family we got them from named them, and of course we kept their names. Super cute.

@LaChelle Kane What a great name, right? LOL Love it!
Share a tip with other keepers
What's one thing you can share with other chicken keepers that changed you or your flocks life? Could be a feeding situation, coop embellishment, a fact about chickens, whatever you want. Drop it in the comments below and outline why you did it and how it impacted you in a positive way. Let's all learn from each other with great tips.

Get large feeders and waterers! There is no need to go and have to feed and water every single day! We have very large feeders and waterers. We double check levels every couple days just in case, but we can skip a couple days very easily!
How often do you really clean the coop? 😅
No shame. We’re among friends.

We will freshen nesting boxes weekly or more if needed, but otherwise, we will do deep litter in the winter and a thorough cleaning in the Spring. Then we clean them about monthly during the summer/fall mostly to avoid the dang mites. Those suckers are a pain to deal with.
Crazy Roo! Help!!!
Hello fellow chicken tenders! I’ve had a few chickens for a few years. Going pretty well. Got some chicks about 9 months ago. 2 were Roos. I sent one back home to where he came from. The 1 left is a great guard chicken, but why does he feel the need to protect my chickens from ME?! Past few days he’s come at me- at treat time- when it’s time to go inside for the evening. Once they are roosted, I can pet him anywhere, calmly, with no fear. But now, at treat time, he goes nuts for the container and me! I picked him up last week and carried him around with no aggression. Now, he looks at me all “cock”eyes! I want to keep him for many reasons, but I can’t have a half-cocked rooster in my yard with kids, dogs and neighbors. Any thoughts?

We do the "dominate him" approach if ours start to get a little feisty with us. It has worked pretty well for us. You grab him and hold him down, putting his chin to the ground and hold him there for a minute. It apparently embarrasses him in front of his girls so he will think twice about trying to come at you again. Granted, doesn't always work, we had one roo that just wanted to kill me no matter what we did...he ended up going to freezer camp. But it does work with some roos.

Small family chicken farm. We raise and sell varieties of chickens, hatching eggs, and chicks as well as farm fresh egg sales daily from the farm.
