Hi!
New here, I'm in Southeast Arkansas, anyone nearby? In the process of building a house and almost to the point of cobbing and getting excited.

@Alex Sumerall, any feedback on pine straw? We also have more of that in Alabama than wheat straw.

@Alex Sumerall, yeah I kinda figured. It’s been great in the garden because it breaks up after year one. I can get straw so I’ll stick with that. Coming from Ohio where straw was abundant in round bales, it’s hard to stomach the cost of square bales here!
Building Layout Tip! Batter Boards and Stringlines
I've just begun the layout for constructing my new timberframe kitchen. Watch to see how I do the layout. Please leave questions. I'd like to document this construction for you all here in the Skool group.

@Alex Sumerall we have an outdoor chicken and hog butchering station that we’ve used off and on for the last 18 months to also do outdoor cooking and prep. I really want a covered space! I’ll be watching for inspiration!

@Alex Sumerall thanks!!
This guy built his house for $200. Zero mortgage. 🏡
Sage found his materials right on the property — cob, wood, all free stuff. Only paid for screws, glue, and silicone. And honestly the house looks really nice! $200 is a rare situation, but it proves the $400K/30-year-mortgage thing isn't the only option. I can relate to his tiny living situation too. It really connects you back to the outside world by not being cooped up indoors for everything. What's your target budget for your build? Drop it below, and let me know what you think of this build. 👇

Land-Based Living... What does it really take?
I just watched this, and he is spot on. Exactly how my experience has been building my homestead from scratch over the past 4 years so far. He has a good list of 10 things you need!

I concur. We’ve been at it for 12 years now but have made two multi state moves. We’re starting over again on raw land hoping this is where we can really dig in some roots and make a place for our children to add onto and/or stay. Starting over is daunting but we have a vision.

@Alex Sumerall I couldn’t either. Our life makes no sense on paper but I simply can’t stop pursuing this dream!
