We made a trial wall to test our mixture. It's looking good so far. Also got the bricks finished this week. Letting the mortar set up a bit before pouring concrete in the walls. Do the cob walls need deadman wherever we put walls?
I'm just trying to understand how we'd attach a regular stick frame wall to the cob wall. I'm used to seeing walls being screwed into the frame of a house and into the floor so I'm trying to understand how'd that work with a cob wall? That's where I was wondering if we needed to leave wood in the cob to screw the walls into?
Okay walk me through making the frame openings. I'm looking at the pictures you have, and it looks like the boards span the entire 18 in width, do I really need to use 18 in boards or If I use 10 in boards would that cause issues?
For inside the house on an earthen floor, how do you attach the walls to the floor? Do i need to embed wood or concrete into the floor for 2x4 interior walls?
I'm going to comment on my own post because I found the answer... you install a Deadman into the base coat that sticks up enough to be level with the floor and then you attach the walls to that. (Just incase someone else is trying to figure this out too :) )
Finally got our footers poured for our house! Feels like so much work has gone into making this happen! The next step will be building the brick stem wall. Any brick laying tips??
