Hey Garden Club! I've added the remaining lessons for The Kitchen Garden course from 10-19. Go check it out and post questions. I'd love to see where you are at with your garden and continue to learn together!

For soil volume - can you give a rough estimate of how to calculate by size of container? Also, what type of places sell soil in bulk?
New video posted with Q&A
In this video I talk about container gardens, in-ground gardens, hugelkulture and some book recommendations. Responding to a few questions posted here. Hope you enjoy it! The books I recommended in this video: - Permaculture, Sepp Holzer - Restoration Agriculture, Mark Shepard - The Permaculture Garden, Huw Richards - Permaculture, A Designer's Manual, Bill Mollison

This was a great video with helpful information! Seems like I could lasagna my containera too - at least the bottoms? Should I skip cardboard or maybe tear large pieces? Is its purpose to be a weed barrier when using it in the ground?
Already sprouting!! 🌱
YOU GUYS!!! I went to water my seeds again that I planted Saturday and the Romaime lettuce is already sprouting! πŸ₯¬πŸ₯¬ Now, I must admit I didn't check that they were on the winter list for planting this early, and picked them up that morning because I was thinking of my bunnies.πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ‡πŸ‡ However, it looks like it might be okay to plant them this early as long as they get plenty of light indoors?

Planning for spring
At our meetup, some folks asked me about soil amendments and dealing with compaction to be able to start a new flower garden. I'll be diving into this and more questions live here in a few days. What’s one garden decision you’re feeling unsure about right now? Big or small. There’s no rush to resolve it, sometimes naming the question is the work. Feel free to share if you’d like.

I have these big planters I'm planning to use for my container garden. I'm unsure if my assumption about not needing to fill all the way with soil is correct. I was thinking to add cut up wood to bottom to help take up space...is that needed/helpful, or actually not good? Also, I have two bags of that soil that's sitting there which has been for 2 years. That's how long I've been stuck on getting started on this! Is it a total waste or could I combine it with some high quality soil and still make use of it?

I live in Fort Collins and really want to grow a container garden for the first time. Primarily to feed my bunnies (lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, dill) and then cherry tomatoes too!
