Introduction
Hello friends, I found this group through a Facebook ad and excited to join this community. The ad said something about being able to hit deadlines and complete tasks for others, but falling short with our own goals. As a recovering chronic 'people pleaser' this resonated. I am 51 and was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago at age 48 while in the midst of perimenopause. The clarity that comes a diagnosis is coupled with both grief and relief. Grief for all the years of not living up to my potential, failed and/or unfinished projects, ventures, etc. and the anxiety and depression that comes with trying to succeed in a neurotypical world. But there is also relief and appreciation for finally having an explanation and a piece to puzzle of why things that seem simple to others was/is a challenge for me. Finally, I feel appreciative and optimistic for the silver linings of ADHD - we are blessed with flexibility, resilience, empathy, hyperfocus, and an agile mind that thrives with continual learning and entrepreneurship. I look forward to learning how best to leverage ADHD to work towards building my business and eventually leave my boring (but stable) full time job. 😊
