How High Should I Set My Table Saw Blade? 🧐
Happy Friday! After watching our recent YT Short about Table Saw Safety Tips, we've had a few people say we were wrong in our explanation of how high you're supposed to set your blade above the piece you're cutting. I've definitely been wrong before and I try to admit when I am wrong but I wanted to explain in a little more detail what we showed in our video. I also added a picture with additional notes. One person said you shouldn't put your blade as high as we were showing as it should only be tall enough to just barely clear the thickness of your piece. Personally, I think that makes for a very difficult time using your table saw because: 1. It's hard to always keep your piece absolutely flat on the saw. If your blade is just barely taller than your material, sometimes you may not cut all the way through if your piece moves a little while cutting or if your piece has any sort of bow or warp to it. 2. If you didn't cut all the way through and then you have to raise your blade a little bit more to clear the bowed surface, you're just asking for trouble trying to recut your piece on the same line (I'm thinking of big or long pieces of plywood). I think there is an allowable Range for the height of your saw blade anywhere from "just enough to clear the top of the wood" to "having your cutters just barely above the wood." Any higher and your cutters start to "slam" into the wood instead of cutting it which causes a rougher cut and tear out. I have been wrong before though but this is what I've always learned. What do you think?

How you showed it in the video is how I was taught when I was a kid. Seems to work just fine for rough and fine cuts, never had an issue.
How would you have fixed this?
This...was an interesting fix. I've never seen this before: the countertop and cabinets sunk about 1/4" below our clients tile backsplash 😱 We hope you're having an awesome week. Would love to see what awesome things you're building, creating, or repairing lately!

Odd, what caused the sinking? Sagging floor?

@Daniel Sloan thats an odd issue for sure. Like you said, odd it was just in the sink area. Maybe you'll get called back soon for joist reinforcement or foundation repair hah!
What do you do when you're in a "funk"?
We've all been there before... Nothing is going right in your day. You aren't happy. You aren't motivated to do anything. You don't want to make dinner or get off the couch. Your house is a mess. You might even get invited to hang out with a friend. The list goes on. This isn't a fun place to be in but we've all been there. So what do you do? When this happens to me, I've learned I have the quickest turn around to becoming happy and motivated to do things once I forget about My problems and focus on someone else. For me, this could mean helping my wife with something or maybe one of my kids, or especially a neighbor needing help. Every single time I go to help someone, the task is usually pretty minimal and fast, AND I usually have more success in doing what I need to get done that day, faster, meaning I am able to help someone and still get done what I needed to get done. Call it what you will, but the act of serving others really has the power to change the outcome of your day for the better because you're worrying about someone else and their problems. Hopefully they are grateful after the help but if not, you at least did your part and you'll be blessed for Your efforts. I've always come home a better person after having helped someone in need and my family benefits from it. Here's to more happy days ahead!

Whiskey... Whiskey makes my day better 🤣 I like the helping others to take my mind off my own "stuff". Going to try and focus on that next time.

Great tip, this one has come in handy many many times.
Which is better: Redwood National Forest or Sequoia National Park
Hey there. Question for you. I have a chance to take two of my boys on a long weekend trip and I have always wanted to see the huge trees in California. We will either go in March or April. It would be fun to Tent Camp. Do you have a preference? I think there will be a lot more snow in Sequoia National Park because it is at a higher elevation. Our flights would also be cheaper flying to Sequoia though so that's a plus. If you've been to either of these would love to know what you think. Thank you!
