I took the workshop!
Counting this as a huge win for me. I went to the workshop but was super late because of traffic but I still went in. It was on musicality and transitions. So I watched a bit from the sidelines and I recognized someone there from the rink in Canada and our Borderline event. She got me out there rolling! Then by the end of the class I was able to freestyle a little. And check this .. I WENT IN THE MIDDLE! I couldn’t believe it. Me and this lady made a little simple routine and got out there 🥰❤️ so proud of me lol!

Sooo happy for you! 🤩
I signed up for a workshop
So I signed up for a workshop this weekend with a JB skater named NIZM. Hadn’t really heard about him till this workshop came up but I guess he’s been skating for a long time. Anyway..I’m starting to have some anxiety about it. Like I feel inadequate. I asked him if me being a new skater would be an issue and of course he said no but my overthinking brain is starting to kick in.

Don't think too much about it and remember to have fun. Enjoy yourself.
Truck adjustment
So I see all over about loosening/tightening trucks. But honestly I don’t know if I should or how they should feel. I just got the Roll Line Mistral plates and they have blue cushions (idk if they are all blue or not) but aside from that I don’t know what I’m looking for. Is it that they should be looser to turn better? Also remember I’m fairly new skater. Going into 6 months (woo hoo!) so take that into consideration whilst answering lol!

Check out Day 22 of 100 days of skate school for a quick and concise answer. For a longer explanation, check out Skatie (on you tube). Her video is called "To Loosen or Not to Loosen: The Roller Skate Truck Adjustment". ☺️

Please let me know if this is helpful.
Toe stops
Well…I took mine out 😂 I have the plugs in right now but I am going to walk around with the toe stops in my bag JUST in case 👀😂 I’m actually nervous about it but I feel like they are holding me back a little in learning little dance moves. So here goes nothing!!

Hahaha! AWESOME!! You'll love it. It gives you so much more freedom of movement! Expect at least 1 fall/stumble at the beginning (So it doesn't catch you off guard). Just a reminder that you took them out. And make sure you are good with T-Stops, or spin to stop. We had a running joke that "it only takes 1 fall or skid" to remind us that we took them out! It was sooo true! 😁 Yay progress!
Skating event wrap up
So my first event was from Wednesday to Sunday last week. I skated every single day of it too! I think I can call at least that a win. That I actually went. I was a little in awe of the skaters there. I was one of the newest skaters and kinda got a little down on myself. I spent a lot of time on the outside (we don’t have carpet at all at our rink) practicing different things. I took a class and couldn’t get all the moves down. It was on NY/NJ style and while I could do the full pivot, I couldn’t catch the half pivots or the back 6. Like I would need a month prob to learn it while the rest of the class got it down within the hour 🥺 Other than that, I fully enjoyed it and was happy that I was on my skates so much. Now I just got a lot of work to do to try to get the moves down. Next event is in July!! Already have my hotel booked.

That's really great that you went and was able to have a fun experience! Don't be too down on yourself because you weren't able to pick up on everything all at once. Just keep a mental note of the things that you saw, and want to learn along the way. I have at least 3-4 skills that I'm trying to learn. If it takes me a while to catch on to one and I feel myself getting frustrated, I work on one of the others and come back to it later. It took me about 6 months to be comfortable with dips (and I still work on them!) I have to remind myself that it's a learning process and I might not learn some things as quickly as others. As long as you are having fun, meeting new people, and getting new ideas, then I'd also call it a win!!! 😁

I'm 54, and just picked up skating again this past year after 40 years! Having a blast! I didn't know it could still be this much fun.
