Paid the wood tax
Yall I paid the wood tax last week. I been trying to learn how to do turns both ways in traffic. Cuz just doing moves off on the practice side isn’t gonna cut it. Well..I did one and actually stuck it but then fell down anyway LOL! My coach was like “what happened? You had it and were going straight”. Idk I think I just got nervous. But now I’m not nervous anymore 😂 He told me that he is happy that I’m progressing to doing other things and one guy gave me a high five. Seriously though, I think the fall almost unlocked something in me. I’ll be back at it today.

That's awesome! Keep at it!
Overcoming fear
How do I overcome fear of doing moves on the rink floor? Like I can do pivots and currently working on spins OFF to the side in the practice areas but freeze up when I get on the floor. How do I combat this? I want to level up

You just have to get out there and go for it. You have to start getting comfortable with having people around you while doing stuff. Otherwise you'll always be scared. Move closer to the center or slower lanes in the rink. As you get used to maneuvering around people it gets less scary and you can slowly "merge into traffic" as you get more comfortable.
Found a wood floor rink!
So, my crew and I have finally found a rink with a wood floor! It's a Roller City, in Denver, about an hour drive from us. So far the Adult night sessions on Wednesday nights have been really fun. Everyone is very welcoming and showing us new dance routines. 😆 I grabbed a quick video as we were leaving.

It's huge too. At the end of the video you can just see the little practice space off to the side.
New L.A. Area Skating
There is a new long-term pop-up (so is that a stay-up?) at The Shops at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, on the SoFi Stadium campus. It's open for 2-hour sessions Wednesdays & Thursdays noon-10pm, Fridays & Saturdays noon-10:30pm, until at least the end of December. Outdoor skating on concrete, no walls to crash into. All ages welcome, but last session of the night is 21+ with themed music. Kids are $10.50/ session, adults are $15.50/ session, 21+ sessions are $19.50, skate rental is $3.00 / session. Tickets and schedule info: sunshineskatecenter.com I haven't tried it yet. I'm still not a strong skater so don't know how I feel about 0 walls. But since I work at Hollywood Park 😁 I'm keeping my eye on it. Insider tip: right now, participation is low. If you like an empty skate environment, now is a good time to take advantage.

Sounds great. If anyone goes, share pics!
Wobbly doing dances
So it’s officially 9 months since I started skating. I have the forward down and backwards is coming along quite nicely. But I get super wobbly when I’m trying to do things like the Downtown or other dances on skates. Does this get better?? I was a little disappointed in myself yesterday at session because I can’t seem to make it smooth out when I was being taught the Downtown. I felt like I was going to fall while others make it look so effortless 🥺

We have other routines that we put together as well. Even when we are just learning something, we just take over the middle! Lol. Usually on a night that's not very busy.

I'm 54, and just picked up skating again this past year after 40 years! Having a blast! I didn't know it could still be this much fun.
