Should I Stay or Should I Go.
🎤 Living the comedian life in North Carolina! Practicing hard at open mics but still struggling to book gigs. Audience loves Mister Dimples, but club owners won't budge. But hey, took a leap of faith to Boston for an open mic and crushed it! Invited back for the main Friday night show! Keep grinding, keep shining! #ComedyLife #NeverGiveUp #BostonBound #MisterDimples #DreamsDoComeTrue 🎭🔥

A lot of awesome vents had "regular" jobs before becoming full time entertainers. Keep plugging away and make your own breaks. Sometimes the opening comes up to what seems to be, out of nowhere. Who knows who might see you at a small gig or a comedy show. Promoters are always looking at all sorts of venues. Keep updating your act. Refine it. Keep what works best and delete the items that do not bring in the laughs. Trial and error. Just keep at it. An overnight success it really a lot of work and time, and NOT overnight.
Headshots
Hi, everyone! So I have a serious question. How exactly can I get a professional headshot for my ventriloquism act? I want to update some of my business side of the ventriloquism.

With the new cameras photos are better than ever. For my first photo I just stood in front of a white wall. We used an old 35 mm camera with a flash we bounced off the ceiling. I didn't want a reflection on my glass's lens or a distortion the glasses would make on the side of my head, so I took a cheap pair of sunglasses and removes the lens and wore them. Really everything came out pretty good. If you wanted a nice background, look into AI . One fellow put a really AWESOME background behind my photo with my skeleton figure and me.
How To Stay Motivated?
We all get in a rut from time to time. How do you stay motivated when you hit a wall with your ventriloquism? For me, I watch vents on YouTube whether it be the old legends like Bergen, Winchell or Lewis or the new jacks coming up to remember why I love making puppets talk so much. Or I take an acting, comedy or writing class to get my craft to the next place and find new ways to create and get around my blocks. What do you do?

Sometimes it's just watching people and how they react in a park, mall or some other place people go. Always carry a small notepad to jot down an idea or situation. Do not rely on your remembering it! Just enjoy being out and use your senses to observe, hear, taste, touch or smell everything that goes on around you. Of course, this does not mean to bother someone else using your senses. Although a lot of funny jokes have come about because people put their self into jokes that were the result of the idea of doing that. Observing life will bring about a lot of comical ideas.
Found Objects
I know someone else posted about non-traditional figures. But what is community opinion about this: can any object be a figure?

Almost anything can be used for the illusion of a voice/sound coming from the object. As much as I love the traditional vent figures either hard or soft, a cup or a bottle have been used for years by some of the greatest vents ever. The point I am getting at, is one doesn't have to have a "mouth" movement to produce the illusion of ventriloquism. I noticed some vents tipping a cup back and forth while others just held the cup still. It's the illusion that creates the magical effect. The distant voice is another illusion that creates the idea a sound or voice is coming from a different location.
