๐ŸŽง My Audible Royalty Experiment
I'm still not sure how I feel about the new audiobook royalty changes. Technically, I don't have to enroll my titles right now. I could wait until the end of the year and make a decision later. On the other hand, if you choose to opt out completely, it appears that you'd need to remove your audiobooks from Audible altogether. Rather than making a decision based on emotion or speculation, I've decided to run a test. I enrolled five of my lower-performing audiobooks into the new program. These are titles that haven't generated a significant number of sales or listens, so I feel comfortable using them as a test group while protecting the books that are already performing well. My thinking is simple: if these audiobooks become available through the all-you-can-listen membership, they may get exposure from listeners who otherwise never would have discovered them. More listeners could potentially mean more engagement, more reviews, and hopefully more revenue. Over the next few months, I'll be tracking downloads, listens, and earnings to see what actually happens. If the results are positive, I may consider enrolling additional titles. If not, I'll be glad I tested with my underperformers first instead of risking books that are already selling. For now, I'm taking a "measure first, decide later" approach. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Are any of you planning to enroll your audiobooks, opt out, or wait and see what happens?

Thank you so much for this information. I think it's awesome that you have the audiobooks to test this on to see which is better. When you say exclusive, does that mean once you enter into the exclusive with an audiobook that it lives there forever and cannot be removed from that platform and sold elsewhere? When I finish and publish my audiobook, my target has been https://elevenreader.io/ through Perplexity I asked it to compare an audiobook versus an e-reader and this is what it came up with. Comparison between audiobook and ElevenReader (11 Eleven Labs) ElevenReader vs ACX/Audible - Quick Comparison Pay Rates: - ElevenReader: 60% royalties on direct sales - ACX/Audible: 25-40% royalties (requires 7-year exclusivity for 40%) When You Get Paid: - ElevenReader: Weekly payouts (minimum $10 threshold) - ACX/Audible: Monthly payouts only Production Costs: - ElevenReader: $66-82 for a 10-hour audiobook (AI narration) - ACX/Audible: $2,000-6,900 (professional narrator) Exclusivity: - ElevenReader: None - publish anywhere you want - ACX/Audible: 7-year lock for higher royalty rate Bonus Earnings: - ElevenReader: $1.10 per listener who engages 11+ minutes + $0.20/hour streamed - ACX/Audible: None Bottom line: ElevenReader pays faster, pays more per sale, costs way less to produce, and doesn't lock you into exclusivity. @Krista Brea there's something to look into to test your Audio books as well.

What's the Goal? ๐ŸŽฏ
I'm curious to get a read of the room and learn a little more about what everyone here is working toward. What is your main goal with your book? ๐Ÿ“š Is your goal to support or grow your business? ๐Ÿ’ฐ Is your goal to create an additional stream of income? ๐Ÿง  Is your goal to get your thoughts, knowledge, or story out into the world? ๐Ÿ† Is your goal to build authority or become known for something? โค๏ธ Is it something more personal? โœจ Or is your goal something completely different? Thereโ€™s no right or wrong answer here. Everyone comes into self-publishing for different reasons, and I always think itโ€™s interesting to see whatโ€™s driving people. Drop your goal below ๐Ÿ‘‡ Iโ€™d love to see what everyone is building.

Great post thank you @Krista Brea for me, it is creating different stories that is a world for each story that I can create in different mediums. Of course revenue streams will have to follow in order to build this out. The world is in need of hope right now and there's a large void where many are feeling hopeless. Creating the type of stories and content that I do. I want to bless people and encourage and help them feel hopeful. ๐Ÿ˜‡

3 Things I Donโ€™t Like About Self-Publishing ๐Ÿ‘€
You usually hear me talk about all the things I love about self-publishing and the advantages it has โ€” especially how it can save you money compared to hiring a publisher and how you can move much faster than going the traditional publishing route. But today I wanted to switch things up and share 3 things I donโ€™t love about self-publishing through Amazon KDP. ๐Ÿ‘€ 1. Printing in Color is EXPENSIVE ๐ŸŽจ If you're creating a cookbook, children's book, photo book, workbook with lots of graphics, or anything with color pages, costs can climb fast. The longer your book gets, the more expensive it becomes to print, and that means either: โ€ข You raise your retail price โ€ข You accept lower royalties โ€ข Or both ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I've played around with the KDP pricing calculator before, and it becomes pretty eye-opening when you start adding page counts. A color book that sounds amazing in theory can quickly become difficult to price competitively. 2. KDP Select Comes with Limitations ๐Ÿ“š Now don't get me wrong... I actually like KDP Select because of the perks. You can run Free Book Promotions, Kindle Countdown Deals, and your ebook can also be included in Kindle Unlimited where you get paid based on pages read. BUT... The tradeoff is exclusivity. If you're enrolled in KDP Select, your ebook can't be available digitally anywhere else while you're enrolled. That means no: โŒ Apple Books โŒ Google Play Books โŒ Kobo โŒ Barnes & Noble Press โŒ Selling the ebook on your own website Your paperback and hardcover can still be sold elsewhere, but your ebook is restricted. 3. You Don't Own the Customer Relationship ๐Ÿ‘ฅ This one is probably my biggest annoyance. Amazon never tells you who bought your book. You don't get their email address. You don't get their contact information. Y ou can't follow up with them later and say: "Hey, I released another book!" This is exactly why it's so important to create ways to bring readers into your ecosystem. Things like: โœ” QR codes inside your books โœ” Bonus resources

I almost went after I published the paperback with my story into KDP select. And I chose not to because of the exclusive rights from Amazon to your story in that format. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with Payhip.com Although I have no sales, I'm still able to have control of the book as @Krista Brea mentions of the things she doesn't like about the KDP Select. This is the example of the home page. I do have the free version. There are paid versions but like anything else when you self-publish you have to do your own marketing. Krista is not wrong. It's expensive to get the best color pages especially as I did for my book. Even with lower profit margins, itโ€™s worth it to me for my readers to have the best book I can possibly publish through the self-publishing avenue I chose. But I'd rather have control of my story and self-publish than deal with the publisher that wants to change it to what they think is best.

@Krista Brea good information. Thank you for sharing it. ๐Ÿ‘Š
Visualize This Moment
Close your eyes and picture yourself walking into a busy author conference. You can hear conversations happening around you, people laughing, books being flipped through, and excitement in the air. You see rows of tables, banners, and other authors sharing their stories. Now notice yourself standing confidently in that space. You are smiling because today is different. In your hands, you're holding your book. Not an idea. Not a future goal. A real published book with your name on it. Feel the weight of it in your hands. Look at the cover details, the colors, the title, and your name printed on it. Run your fingers across the cover and realize, 'I actually did this.' Picture someone walking toward you and saying, 'Wait... you're the author of that book? I've heard about it.' Feel that moment. Feel the pride, excitement, and gratitude. Imagine taking photos holding your book, talking with readers, signing copies, and sharing why you wrote it. Notice how confident you feel because you didn't just think about becoming an author... you became one. Stay in that moment for a few seconds and ask yourself: (WRITE YOUR ANSWERS IN THE COMMENTS!) โžก๏ธ What does this version of me believe? โžก๏ธ How does this version of me show up? โžก๏ธ What actions did I take to get here?

Excellent post @Krista Brea โžก๏ธ What does this version of me believe? That I was created for a purpose in a time such as this. โžก๏ธ How does this version of me show up? Battle-weary but focused. Knowing that my path is leading to great and mighty things! โžก๏ธ What actions did I take to get here? I am an overcomer. The tools became available for me to achieve what I wanted my book to look like. December of 2025 was a great month and that's when I launched my first book ever!
