Greetings and Salutations!
Good morning everyone! Robert here; looking forward to connecting with you all on this journey, hoping to learn, grow, and share my own experiences that might be of help to other seekers. In this modern age of craziness that is full of distractions and pitfalls, we need eachother more than ever. I'm glad you all are here. Peace love and harmony. 💕 ❤️ 💛
‘Sit with your emotions without letting them define you’
Edit: I should’ve prefaced by saying that I am reaching out for help! I’m definitely not trying to denounce this wisdom or question it, which is what my post sounds like… that’s my mistake. I am asking for help with how to do it, please <3 Can’t wrap my head around this. For years and years I’ve seen it in all the esoteric works and even in psychology etc, but I don’t understand how it’s possible to ‘sit with your emotions’ and ‘feel them fully’… while simultaneously not identifying with them. It seems to contradict the idea of ‘letting go’ and ‘being in the present’ (since emotions coming up are generally tied to the past or future) and the notion of not allowing your emotions to dictate your thoughts. Our thoughts are precious and we need to be careful which ones we focus on yada yada, but at the same time we’re told to feel our emotions fully, and even cry if we need to, but doesn’t that just generate more negativity, and thus more negative thought patterns, which in turn creates more negativity?

Thank you for sharing Soph. I believe this is a conundrum we all face. In my experience, being able to let go and be the silent observer of these emotions is overwhelmingly difficult, especially at first, but with practice it becomes more achievable. The ego has always been attached to these mental states and feelings, so it is totally normal to feel this way. The understanding comes to us that as a human, we can learn to identify, separate and compartmentalize ourselves into three categories - thoughts, emotions, and body. When we sit in silence, countless thoughts will assault us, that come from all of the stimulation that we have absorbed from this over-stimulating society, that we have not processed yet. They didn't come from you, and many of them are indeed intended to assault you for the gain of others. The less stimulation that we seek and absorb, the easier this will become. Many thoughts will come from past traumas and experiences. Meditating and allowing these to bubble to the surface will help us to process and heal them in real time. Let me know if this helps at all; I am happy to discuss further. Much peace and love 🙏
