Stoic Style
Gentlemen, I'd love some feedback on an idea I had which I may publish to my blog. I'm not as active on here as I would like to be I put hard limits on my app times. So I may be an unfamiliar name to many. I will be grateful for any and all feedback. Thank you!! Many may know the tales of Epictetus. Many would apply it to themselves in the same way. But there may be a deeper meaning to apply to our goals. The classic tale goes as follows. In the days of ancient Rome many men especially those of status would dress to show their worth in how they were draped. The most elegant clothing signaled to the people that you were a man who was to be respected. This came with a burden of arrogance. Feeling like one lived on a higher plane of existence. So and an exercise Seneca the Younger advised Epictetus to challenge his own image. He advised setting aside days to live with "coarse and rough dress" to ask: "Is this the condition that I feared?" This isn’t about self-punishment, but about testing one’s inner strength against societal expectations. Dressing poorly for a day can be a form of mental training, helping to detach self-worth from appearance and reduce anxiety about judgment. A modern Stoic might choose to dress poorly—or simply wear simple, unremarkable clothing—for a day not out of vanity or rebellion, but as a voluntary exercise in indifference to external appearances. This aligns with the Stoic practice of voluntary hardship, where one deliberately embraces discomfort to build resilience and clarify what truly matters. But in today's world so many are so casual. The counter signal of high status individuals wearing sweats and t-shirts to conferences has flipped the agenda. Now so many don't step up and dress well at all. Now the discomfort lies in dressing up not in dressing down. We all know it's easy to blend in. But taking time with your dress sense can be a sign of respect to those you interact with. Subtly saying, I respect your time and attention and wished to dress properly to reflect that.

It's been awhile since I have made a post and have been active. As we all know life puts challenges in front of us, and we need to meet them head on. With that said, we experience positives as well- this is one of them for me. https://mrhealthandfit.com/2026/john-coneset If this message resonates, I’d truly appreciate your support. Not for ego, but to help amplify a message that discipline, character, and whole-man wellness still matter. I’ve been selected as a finalist for Mr. Health & Fitness 2026, and I receive that with genuine humility. This isn’t my first chapter with Mr. Health & Fitness. My journey here mirrors my life—progress, setbacks, recalibration, and resolve. There were seasons when my health drifted, focus slipped, and discipline had to be rebuilt from the ground up. No shortcuts. No spotlights. Just daily decisions. That lived experience is what I bring to the Real Men Real Style community. It’s never been about perfection. It’s about standards. About reminding men—especially those who believe their best years are behind them—that real health is comprehensive: physical strength, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and social connection, all working together. My compass remains constant: Passion. Purpose. Presence. Passion to do the work. Purpose to make it meaningful. Presence to show up fully—in my body, my mind, my relationships, and my community. Being named a finalist isn’t a finish line—it’s a platform. One I intend to use to reinforce a timeless truth: real men take responsibility for their health, their appearance, and their impact—at every stage of life.

Travel Uniform Improvement Project
So this is my travel uniform when I fly for business. Any advice on improving this uniform while still achieving the simplicity, space-saving, and visual objectives stated below? Ex. I’m thinking of adding dark brown shirts to the mix in fall/winter for a little warmth and variety. Thank you in advance, oh Brotherhood of Style. The jacket alternates between a navy blazer, this navy sport coat, and a light grey, cotton sport coat. In warmer weather, I substitute the medium blue or black button down with a navy or black polo. Always dark wash denim pants. Pocket square rotates based on the jacket and shirt. Boots in fall/winter, loafers in spring/summer. I gravitate toward a monochrome look because 1) I’m vertically compact, and 2) dark colors hold up better while traveling. I never check a bag so this uniform allows me to deal with temperature changes en route, have the jacket ready for business casual receptions, and pack only a suit for business dinners. When I get to my destination, I’ll usually replace the dark shirt and jeans with grey trousers, a light blue/white button down m, and a tie for business casual meetings. Having a travel uniform keeps decision making to a minimum, helps me pack quickly and not forget things, and maximizes use per article.

Looks great overall. If I had to make a change, have the jacket slightly altered. A little tighten at the back near the waist would give more shape to your chest. Giving you the V look we go for in classic menswear. The arms could be taken in a touch width wise. Difficult to see for certain by the photo, just because of the pose, I would definitely go to a tailor and have them look over everything in small details. Otherwise great travel get up.

@Ron LaBrec would love to see an update after your visit.
Tailor store
I just watched Antonio's last video on custom clothing. I've been using Tailor Store for about a year now. I can back up what he is saying about ease of use and quality. They are incredible. One thing to add though, customer service is incredible!!! I had an issue with a shirt, instant remake. I had an issue with a pair of pants, instant remake. Fast replies and a great attitude. Now for my controversial opinion. Tailor Store far outshines Collars and Co. I'm personally not a fan of performance fabrics and dress shirts. I get how convenient it is but something for me always lacks texture. I thought Antonio looked way better in this than in the collars and co from previous videos. Does anyone think a like or disagree? Am I missing out by ignoring performance fabrics in my clothing?

@Alex Kilpatrick great review! Your experience matches my expectation of it. Hence why I never tried it. Glad to see my intuition was right.
Santoni Derby's
These Santoni Derby's are very temperamental... After wearing them yesterday, I needed to condition and wax them last night... Extra points if you know what the knot is called on the shoelaces...

@John C I read that it was but I couldn't actually confirm anything about it. As far as I knew it was a berlutti family secret for a while. I'll probably something soon on this.
