Props to ICT
At the risk of "preaching to the choir", just want to say how impressed I am with ICT service. Every time I place an order, I get an email within a couple of hours that says my products have shipped. Thanks ICT crew and keep up the great work! -Rob
Need some piston advice.
I posted this on a FB group but wanted to ask in here as well: Looking for some advice from those with more experience on a refresh/rebuild. I just picked up my LQ4 from the machine shop, and they had all the pistons removed from the block. They cleaned everything up, gapped the rings, honed the cylinders, but none of the pistons or rods were marked for cylinder location. My question is — how big of a deal is this? Can I reinstall the pistons in any cylinder as long as I keep the rod/piston orientation correct, or should they really go back into their original bores? I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether wear patterns matter enough to worry about. For context, this is more of a refresh than a full performance build, and everything looked to be in good shape. Appreciate any insight from those who’ve run into this before.

@Tj Johnson I really appreciate that feedback! Things are coming together, slowly but surely!
Cooling and Fueling Advice
Looking for some input and real-world experience on cooling setups and mounting solutions for my OBS LS swap. Originally this was supposed to be a “budget build”… but as everyone else and know me knows that ship has sailed 😂. So now I’m just trying to make smart decisions without lighting any more money on fire. I’m planning to step up from the 28” to a 34” radiator—leaning toward a stock-style GMT400 HD or possibly a GMT800 setup with matching fans/shroud. Trying to figure out what actually works best vs. what just sounds good on paper. For trans cooling, I’ve already got a Tru-Cool 40k with braided lines and AN fittings on the way, so that part should be handled. A few things I’d appreciate some feedback on: - Best radiator/fan combo for the 34” swap (OEM vs aluminum) - Clean mounting solutions for the bigger radiator - Any gotchas going from 28” to 34” - OEM fans vs. After market. - Fuel system setup (line size, routing, hard line vs AN, regulator/filter setups, etc.) Goal is a solid, reliable setup that stays cool—without overspending again. Appreciate any advice.

@Taiton Cheever this started out as a simple upgrade from the factory 305. It was slow to begin with, but after a lift and 35" tires, it could not get out of its own way. I put 4.56 gears in it which helped get it rolling but just not enough. This is a play truck, not daily driver, which will be used for occasional light towing, mild off-roading, and trips to the hardware store. The power goal is, more HP and torque than I had. So I am in the early stages of the LS swap. So far have done a motor refresh on the 6.0 LQ4, valve job, all new bearings, polished crankshaft, truck Norris cam with upgraded springs, pushrods, trunions, etc. Keeping stock truck intake but adding long tube headers. The 98 Vortec has a different fuel delivery system than the donor LQ4, so I want to handle that effectively. Again looking for a quality cost effective solution.

This was the beginning of the journey, finding a proper donor vehicle. It's a 2004 Yukon Xl Denali and the motor is in great condition (was not a shred of metal or other contaminates in the oil pan). As we took it apart further, all signs of a healthy motor kept appearing. Here is Stage 1 of the build, getting something to build!

If it has an LS or LT Gen V in it, you’re in the right place. Post this first: - Vehicle (year/make/model) & engine/trans: - Swap stage (planning, parts, wiring, first start, driving): - Photo or video (optional but encouraged): Rules: - LS or LT builds only - No spam, no selling. No links unless they help someone fix a problem. - Ask real questions. Give real answers. Help others move their build forward. - Post photos or video when you can. Progress beats perfection. - Respect the builders here. Different budgets. Different goals. Same obsession. Get started by posting your build!

98 K1500 5.0 swapping in an LQ4 6.0 with 4l65e. Waiting on motor to come back from the machine shop and gathering more parts. Wiring harness is being sent off to get reworked. Looking to gain valuable information here, thanks in advance!
