Greetings! Originally from Denmark, but grew up mostly in the US. Just moved to Kinsale, Ireland and I'm about to become the owner of a currently-operating coffee shop that has been in business for three years. It's doing well and I plan to take it to the next level.

@Juan Rosenzweig Do you know anyone that can do a quick profitiability evaluation of the business (cheaply)? We might actually withdraw from the deal because the numbers don't look as good as they first did.
The "Profit First" Model
Have any of you tried (or currently use) the Profit First model of accounting in your coffee shop business? Just finished listening to the audiobook by Kasey Anton "Profit First For Restaurants" and it seems like a game-changer, so I really want to adopt the system. Curious if anyone has tried it. https://books.google.ie/books/about/Profit_First_for_Restaurants.html?id=vGuqzwEACAAJ&redir_esc=y
What Do You Think Is Harder: Getting Customers or Keeping Them?
A lot of people focus heavily on attracting new customers, but I’ve seen businesses struggle even more with retention. Getting someone to try your coffee is one thing…getting them to come back regularly is a different challenge entirely. From your experience, which one is harder—and why?

I'd say they are almost at the same level of difficulty, but getting customers is just SLIGHTLY more difficult than keeping them. If you get them in the door AND they like what you offer, you "just" have to maintain consistency. People are creatures of habit.
