Do you use a Mixer in your setup?
I've been using analog mixers in my setups ever since I started with music production. No fancy studer, ssl, or neve consoles, just a box with lots of inputs, outputs, and routing options. I find having every synth, effect, or drum computer accessible by just opening up a fader is such an incredible time saver. The option to sum multiple inputs and record with effects is something I simply can't live without. I just bought a Mackie VLZ4 16 for live performances. There's no time to scroll through menus in a live situation. I need to find my kick drum in a fraction of a second. Actually, building up muscle memory to blindly know where to find each instrument is one of the most important things, in my opinion, for playing live. Dub mixing is also something I'd love to do, just add a delay and reverb on a send, return it to a channel, and create feedback loops. You can do this with any analog mixing desk. Do you use a mixer in your live or studio setup? Why or why not?

For live performances: simple mixing in the case: Befaco STMix 1U, knob.farm Hyrlo, Intellijel Mixups. At home: the incredibly underrated Roland MX-1 performance mixer… 4 mono, 6 stereo inputs (including 4 USB ports, which can be used as Eurorack stereo inputs via Aira modules or for other Roland stuff, like the TR-8S), MIDI synced (per step programmable) performance effects, stereo send/return, 18 channel (!) audio interface and my favorite: “mastering mode”: does some eq/compression voodoo to make the entire mix sound awesome.

@Melvin Rijlaarsdam It's the best! Well, the MK2 is even better of course... That said, I deliberately *won't* be using it during my next gig on Nov. 23 (@elektrikcafearnhem). That's why it's not connected atm. I decided to challenge myself to 1. work within one case (no external gear), 2. reset all sequencers (in this case Bloom and Steppy) to zero, 3. not use any samples. So it will be 100% improvisation, nothing prepared... Scary!

@Glenn Wiorek Still not so sure how much fun though... Bloom MK1 is a very unreliable SOAB. Does weird clock stuff and its “generative fractal sequencer” sometimes comes up with horrible BS. No problem at home of course, but in a live situation, it’s like playing musical Russian Roulette… YOLO, I guess….
