A Note On This Week's US Black History Month Webinars
As many of you know, I lost my paternal grandmother last Thursday to a long and brave battle with Parkinson's disease. She was my first creative muse and one of the safest and most nurturing people in my life as a child. I recorded this video today that is, as usual, being suppressed like crazy due to a dip in my online activity over the past week, as well as the mention of Black History Month and a gathering I'm not paying LinkedIn a cut of. I'd appreciate if you'd go give it a listen and some engagement. All of this said, the webinars are on for this week, February 24-25-26 at 3:30pm Central US/10:30pm Central Europe. If you have not yet registered, you may do so at this link. Replay available for all registered attendees. Contributions over the suggested add seats to our community sponsorship pool. Global Black community members, your seat is on us—please DM me your email address to be registered. For non-Black people experiencing financial difficulty, a limited number of community pool seats are available. Please DM me ASAP to claim one, no questions asked. These webinars will much more off-the-cuff than I'm used to. There won't be a lot of bells and whistles. But I think it's important to still show up for the community and for myself this week. I'd love for you to do the same. See you there. 🤍

Sad I couldn't make it in person but looking forward to the replays! 👀
Interesting read
Thought I'd share this here; great article. One of the parts that stuck out to me: "If it feels like Maga is going overboard to tarnish Good’s image, it’s because they are – the smearing serves the dual purpose of a warning and an invitation to white women. There is no white supremacist state control without white women’s fidelity to it. As such, the right must simultaneously denigrate Good as unworthy of protection while reassuring other white women of the racial rewards of their political loyalty." https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2026/feb/01/white-supremacy-women-renee-good-ice-killing?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
Difficult Conversations in 2026: Knowing When to Divulge and When to Defer as an Ally
We had a fabulous inaugural town hall & support session today. Appreciate these lovely ladies for holding it down when I needed to step away to put out a small family fire! While we didn't record the whole session, there was a really great question/reflection that I wanted to be sure to capture. With permission from @Cheryl Wozniak and @Kristin Bigras, I wanted to share this clip. In matters of accompliceship in turbulent times when it seems like no one is being spared, it's important for us to remember that no matter how close an incident hits to home, social dynamics continue to exist. While we are all impacted and no two lived experiences are exactly alike, recognizing these dynamics and knowing when to decenter (and stay out of the center, period) is critical to the effectiveness of your advocacy. While you may *feel* a sense of identity, deep empathy or parallelism with a particular struggle, it's not always right for the moment to lead with this conversation—especially if you are of a predominantly privileged background or are in a position to guide or coach others through a difficult experience. It IS, however, important to use that gut emotion as information to guide a line of questioning that keeps the marginalized individual at the center of the issue being discussed. Use empathy as a catalyst, not a cover. Let me know what comes up for you as you hear this clip. 💛 A reminder that we'll be back next Thursday 1/22, same time (1pm CST/8pm CEST) for our next session. Link to register in the calendar tab. Looking forward to seeing more of you there!

Wow, I'm sorry I missed this conversation! This brought up a couple things for me: 1. I was surprised when I heard protesters were chanting, "say her name" in Minneapolis after Renee Good was killed. It felt wrong to me, because I had only ever heard that for Black women who were murdered by police. 2. I have seen and heard many white people comparing their experiences in the current climate to that of communities being targeted by ICE. My fellow white people are telling me they are afraid to leave their houses. I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I understand that the general atmosphere in my State is very dark, and anyone who is opposed to what's happening is afraid. But on the other hand, we white people cannot ever imagine what it feels like to be targeted by ICE, the government, basically, other white people. I'm curious if it's narrow minded of me to think of this as another example of white people centering themselves.

@Stacy Casson yes, that's very true.

How is everyone doing so far this week? Take a moment to check in with one defiant win that you're celebrating in spite of the chaos in the news, the world, and beyond. A reminder that tomorrow (or today, depending on where you are) is our second Town Hall + Community Support Circle themed "Hate Has No Place Here. Click to register to join us tomorrow and next week, same time. The session is open to the public and likely continuing on into October, so do feel free to invite anyone you know might need this space. We look forward to gathering with everyone again for dialogue and maybe even a few (more) much-needed laughs. :') See you there. 🫶🏾

Ugh I'm sad I can't make it tomorrow. My defiant win is getting a problematic supervisor out of leadership and bringing in new perspectives
