Oklahoma influencer Sara Gilson recently posted on TikTok accusing her soon-to-be ex-husband, Shawn Duffey, of being a paedophile. Less than two weeks later, Sara and Shawn were found dead in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide. Sara had an emergency protection order against him. A separate protection order had also been filed on behalf of a 15-year-old girl he coached, containing allegations of inappropriate touching and messages. Shawn had not been charged or convicted over those allegations before he died. The part I keep coming back to is Sara publicly calling him a paedophile while the allegations had not yet been tested in court and while she was frightened enough of him to have sought protection. Was posting it publicly an understandable warning, a dangerous escalation, or an accusation that should never have been made before charges were laid? *images ex tiktok mrsgilson
