OOTC Wednesday
Still very cold in Wisconsin a couple days after our two day blizzard. Went with a charcoal camel hair jacket, merino wool vest, my dad's clip on bow tie from the 1950s. He will be 90 in a couple weeks so I am celebrating by wearing some of his vintage ties this month.

What have you spent too much money on?
We all have that thing in our wardrobe we have spent too much money on. A guilty pleasure, something we really really wanted. Maybe a watch, a ring, a bespoke suit? Spending too much money is relative, if you love it then it wasn't too much money. But what do you feel guilty about buying? What is your story? Mine is a Fedora. I have at least a dozen fedoras of various qualities and looks. I am a thrifty person so I usually look for very good deals in vintage Fedoras. However, recently I found a vintage Mallory beaver felt chocolate brown fedora from the mid 1940s in nearly mint condition (I thought) on ebay. It cost 4 times what I would normally spend but it was exactly what I wanted. When I got it in the mail I sent it directly to McLaughlin & Hayes in Milwaukee for a full professional cleaning and reblocking. To my annoyance as could be expected the hat band stitching was rotting off the hat and it had to be replaced and restitched and the original band reinforced. The restoration bill cost more than the hat, which was 4 tines more than I should have spent. A little over $450.00 for a fedora....Oops...but I got what I wanted. I will send photos when I get it back. What's your story?

Can We Talk?
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen: This is a topic that will bring much discussion, and some are not going to agree with this and that is fine, because as ladies and gentlemen we all will not always agree on things but one thing we can do is agree to disagree. We can have positive dialog without anger and attitude. It is the opinion from some that as ladies and gentlemen that certain items especially clothing are meant for certain thigs and should only be worn for that purpose. Now, this was the way of life in the 30,40,50,60, and early 70's. but as time went on many things that intertwined, became mixed and/or incorporated. I personally feel that as ladies and gentlemen certain things are to be used for their intended purpose and should not be mixed or introduced as a new trend. For me things like: 1.wearing tennis with suits, 2. wearing gym clothing as everyday attire un public, 3. wearing bedroom attire in public 4. men carrying bags that resemble women's bags i.e. purse type bags 5. men wearing hats inside public places 6. women wearing sleep bonnets in [public 7. men wearing baseball caps with suits 8. people on speaker phone in the general public 9. people putting the whole life on social media 10. parking in no parking pr prohibited parking spaces because you feel you are just going to be in there a minute 11. men not opening doors for elderly and women 12. women wearing men athletic clothing 13. men and women gossiping about other people 14. people who give unwanted and unsolicited advice because they feel their opinions matter 15. men who do not pump gas for ladies or elderly people these are just 15 tings that I feel as ladies and gentlemen we need to correct and work on. Again, I am not saying that I am right ro anyone is wrong, these are my personal thoughts. But I am curious to hear what your thoughts are and what you feel as ladies and gentlemen we need to improve on. Remember these is NO Right Or Wrong, this is a discussion.

I agree with many of these points. I've brought this up before, but it is acceptable to wear hats in public spaces indoors. However, removal of your hat at certain times and places is what the issue is. Since hats were donned 150 plus years now hat rules have remained unchanged. Hats are NOT to be worn in someone's home, place of worship, funeral services outdoors. If you are in a public space, a shopping center, a mall etc. it has always been ok to wear your hat. This notion that you should not wear your hat in public spaces is a "rule" someone mistakenly put out there in cyber land and it has caught on and now people think that was a rule that has always been. It is not. This is one topic I am certain of. Should you wear a hat indoors? #shorts

Gossiping has been going on since the dawn of civilization. But the uptick is directly related to the lack of kindness in our society right now, starting at the very top with lies, childish name calling, ridiculous nicknames for people and patent false stories about anyone who is against the ruling class. You cannot have a civil society when the society chooses leaders so utterly lacking in morals, and sense of decency and contempt for all the is time honored and good. 50 years ago this could never have happened, our society would never have made excuses and tolerated such behavior.
