We have 9 hens and one rooster. Biggest personality....holy smokes.... They ALL do! Copper the roo is probably the most calm out of everyone. He's very good at alerting to possible danger and showing his girls where the tasty treats are, but he lets them peck at him and says not a thing. Blue is my chatty-Kathy. She just chats about EVERYTHING. (She's a bit of a Henster.) Dot is rather squeaky and backs up Blue. Like Blue is the head mean girl and Dot is aspiring. Kaniya is the same age as Blue and Dot, but is a calm, sweet, big girl. She could knock the chatty out of Blue if she wanted to, but she's too nice for that. Ravioli is my Rockstar. She's an Easter Egger and lays the biggest, most beautiful, blue eggs. She's a little timid but won't back down if treats are involved. (She's my shoulder chicken in my profile pic.) Pretzel is apparently ruled by her tummy. She is always the first to run for treats when either of us even just walks by, treats or no. Cleo is the grumpy old lady -even though she is not old at all! Guess she's an old soul -and likes to be the token curmudgeon. Coco Puff is the biggest girl (chocolate orpington), sounds like a goose, and is the most timid of everyone. But hangs with the smallest of the flock - the 2 polish hens - like they'll protect her. Zucchini and Noodle are our punk rockers with their white crests. But they are both like little chihuahuas they way they stand up to the rest of the mean girls and cluck WAY bigger than they actually are. Seems they DO protect Coco, after all.

@Carrie Meade 100%! 😂
How’s the weather where you are?
We got 14 eggs for the first time in forever the other day. Now getting a decent amount since the weather has warmed a tad. Much better than the 1-2 we were getting! Def looking forward to more spring weather and it’s warming up quick here in Texas. Hope you’re all starting to see some spring come your way!

What winter!? We really just went from Fall to Spring with a hiccup of winter for a day or two. Although, my 9 hens did take a break! My 3 new layers are all finally getting the hang of things (although, I'm so proud that every one of them laid in the nest boxes every time!) We're now getting 5-6 eggs per day from our 9. We're seeing high 60s in the day with lots of sun and 30s at night. Our usual late April weather. lol
Awesome resource for Chicken parents
I found Heather Levin of The Greenest Acre 3 years ago when I was contemplating backyard chickens. That year she started her Backyard Chicken Summit-a 3 day event with seminars on all areas of chicken keeping. I learned so much and have been following her ever since. It has helped my chickens as well. Well, it's that time of year again and he 3rd annual (free) Backyard Chicken Summit is coming in March. You can find her on Facebook should you want to join in the fun and education.

I agree! I've been a member of CHA (Chicken Health Academy) for that long as well. The summit is awesome and the group is even better - if you can believe it! Here is the link, hoping it works: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2F95503--greenestacre.thrivecart.com%2Ftoolkit-fast-action%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExMnJMTDdPMlZTTE1adHdtUnNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR4x-myodIHyyofpsJ5EZbkwmeXipQiAtf3eiAoe81SzTy0wmfSr6WfG-grO-A_aem_eMyn0e6lCRxoyQkHK4gR3w&h=AT5MbgaFDG5-AG4ZxOvcIxLhroFSbaiEHHfJ4uAUMtGWyEmq3kk9FtJ0IE246ByZDokCpkBz6N25y7_-7sq1EVzOQk0_dOyLzaby7M5GlITYZYihVDPS2VnkZvVrg8BwyuMxjJ2yLUoZBg&__tn__=R]-R&c[0]=AT73m9E-adVaCrnt4IuP6g-IfK407i8mdH9SlUv8UHcyHM_ZXqsd1iMlNcKWkECF2c-bmxWnHk5U-uQm3cMdPhIpiRG4eNlAzhpIYIYwSkSmaKnov2dxR_tbZEs7ZyVV0it33YinO12zpg7sXj0OKg0nEdSdWVgicR5JDC3BtmzK4DuvtYNkzukYVDikS93uOps
At what point did you realize chickens weren’t just a hobby anymore? 😅
Curious what you think and what you believe got you to the place you are now.

@Nisana Miller The original girls are Rocks -Black Rocks and one White Rock. We lost the Buckeye to a bobcat, so when I bought 3 new chicks the first time, I got another Buckeye, a Silver-Laced Wyandotte, and an Easter Egger. My newest three are a Chocolate Orpington, White Crested Black Polish, and White Crested Blue Polish. My rooster is an Easter Egger. Definitely have NOT stuck to one main breed, have I? lol

@Nisana Miller Thanks. And we were new tenders... Didn't realize a bobcat could easily jump a 4ft fence. It did, grabbed her (we assume), and was gone within seconds. There was a skafuffle and all that was left were a few of her feathers. We never saw her or found any other trace of her. The rest have been a good flock and we feel a little safer with the rooster as they "free-range" in an open -larger- fenced area. We are right next to the interstate and have WAY too many predators on our 6 acres for our flock to truly free-range. My young polish are just the cutest things with their "punk-rock" look as my hubby says. One just laid her first egg and it's Adorable!
Who has the craziest chicken names?
I've seen some very cool names and thought it would be good see what we have here. Here's a couple we have had over the years... - Large Marge (our brahma) - Lil Peep - Cluck Norris - Blackie Chan - Lewis and Clark (2 of them that always explored far away)

Hubby said "Let's get a goat!" Me: "Nope!" Him: "Let's get chickens!" "Nope!" The nieces said they couldn't take theirs with them. Now I'm obsessed.
