Building your business
For those of you now running your own player development business, what did your path look like? Did you gain experience working under a school, a team, or a training facility? Or did you jump straight into building your own client base? I’d love to hear what worked for you and any lessons from that journey.

My player development journey began in 2018 as a volunteer coach for a HS boys team, working with individual players before school and helping any way I can during practices, so oftentimes playing them. I then applied for an internship at IMPACT Academy in Vegas working for Joe Abunassar. I was 1 of 3 interns selected to get it. So I spent half a year out there in 2019 working with the pre draft process, helping hundreds of college players as they get ready for the NBA draft, as well as working with pro players. After Vegas, I went back to my home state to teach and coach, then slowly building my clientele in the summer months for training. In 2022, my wife and I moved to Omaha so I can be a fulltime trainer working for a legit training business, working with 3rd-pro level players, and coaching their grassroots AAU teams, as their top teams compete on the UA Rise/Association circuits. In 2024, my wife and I moved back to central Nebraska to start my own business, renting out gym space and building clientele, until I ultimately got my own gym last summer and now have a waiting list of kids wanting to get in and work with me. Been a long, crazy process but it’s been a dream of mine since 2018 that’s taken some twists and turns, but that’s all part of the journey. I’m still teaching, pursuing my masters degree, I’m married with 2 kids and a 3rd on the way, so it’s been a wild ride to get to where I am.

@Brendan Williams joining another business definitely helped me! Especially so I can see firsthand how the business is operated. We had 8 guys on staff, with me and one other being on salary, then 2 fulltime trainers, and 2 part time trainers, and my 2 bosses. I got to see the 1:1 side of training, small groups, classes, the AAU side, and everything in between. I was also head of marketing and social media, so I was kind of set up in a good position to where I knew what to do when I left the program. Plus I got to learn from some of the smartest trainers I personally know just based off my 8 years of experience, which helped me gain new perspective. In my 2-3 years working in Omaha, we gained more notoriety all around the state because I’m from western Nebraska, so a lot of people I knew from all over the state started following us and after that, more and more people knew about us, which made me more confident to be able to start my own training business knowing I would have some people ready to work with me.
Middle Of The Week!
What's up fam! 350 members strong... WOW. Super grateful for each and every one of you. It's been a crazy busy / hectic summer for us, we are in week 7 of our off-season workouts with our HS / College & Pro Clients. Still trying to be as active as possible in here!! How can I help? What problem are you facing right now?

Not necessarily a problem I’m facing, but would love your feedback/recommendation. I’ve got a camp for boys/girls grades 7-12 and grades 4-6 coming up where the HS coaches want to focus on footwork/finishing at the rim. They struggle finishing around length/athleticism and drawing fouls.
Curious 👀🤔
What’s the main issue your players are facing this summer that you are working on? Ours has been shooting by far! We’ve had 15+ new college and pro clients - it’s been a blast altering and making subtractions to everyone’s shot! The results are insane!

I’d say it’s a mixture for me. I voted shooting, as I’ve helped break down a lot of athletes’ shot mechanics, but I have quite a few athletes who struggle with split-second decisions in live situations. Adding SSG with adv/disadv/and constraints has helped with that, though.
UPCOMING WEEK!
What's up DCB FAM! First off - wow, I can't believe there are over 300 of us in here daily striving to be the best versions of ourselves as coaches, trainers, players, and parents Haven't been as active on here because as most know this time of year is crazy busy with our high-level clients. This upcoming 2 weeks will be JAM packed with our NBA, Overseas, and High Major Division 1 clients. I'm preparing with film study and weekly plans for each athlete. Excited to share the work with you all! What are you looking forward to this week?

Grind never stops! This week is the same..still traveling to 5 different schools weekly, so I’m excited to continue stacking on what we’ve built in week 1, and getting more kids in the gym who were gone last week. Also opening weekend of College World Series, as I live 2 hours from Omaha!
Big Week Coming up!
What’s up y’all - getting ready and making our schedule for this upcoming week. Our high-level workouts are in full swing! What are you looking forward to this week?
