Mindset & confidence
Here’s something that I use as a general structure to think about before, during and after a ride. @Jonathan Mahon do you think there are any things that are on here that I don’t need and is there anything else you would add?

@Jonathan Mahon that’s great thank you. Makes it much easier for people to use. 🤩
That feeling
Who can relate to that great feeling when you come out the ring after a good round or bad feeling when things done go to plan. Do you think that can affect you mentally for your next round?

Wow that’s amazing advice thank you. Really detailed explanations and really helpful. I’m sorry that was a really ambiguous question as it depends so much on the person. The examples you have given are great. I will definitely use this. This is why this group is so good because everyone gains from it. I often find it hard in that split moment as they come out the ring when I may be thinking one thing but know I need to say something different depending on that person in front of me that’s looking for guidance in that moment. 🙏

@Jonathan Mahon I guess that short pause for reflection makes all the difference.
What battles do you face?
I answered a question in this group the other day: Jump Academy It was regarding that time between classes at a show and how to mentally prepare for the 2nd class. What are the things that stress you out, whether that be at a show or at home? Maybe oddly nervous before doing something you've done a hundred times? Maybe it's when you go to ride when you think your horse might be fresh?

Two things that I find difficult, 1- getting the right balance between training my own horses and coaching. I have dealt with this by only riding our stabled horses at our yard in the morning and only coaching in the afternoon. I used to try and mix them up and accommodate everyone and never really did my best work with anyone. 2- Hacking on the road. The roads seem to get busier all the time and therefore more dangerous. Being on a young horse whilst someone who doesn’t understand horses comes flying up behind you is not always fun. I have had a few accidents. We are very lucky where we are and can hack out into the woods, so I only do this now.

That’s so true. Can’t focus correctly when your mind is spilt. Yes we definitely don’t have quiet roads around here unfortunately.
Hi 👋
Just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a rider and showjumping coach and am Looking forward to this page helping me and my students. Here’s a picture of me and the best horse I ever had. (I know we shouldn’t have favourites 😂)

@Jonathan Mahon I do agree but this one was special because of the journey we went on. Really looking forward to learning more on this group.

@Jonathan Mahon thank you. Yes recovery always takes longer than you like but I’m enjoying listening to your podcasts while I’m off.
