Why You Should Lock In To Your Metronome Like He's the Drummer... A highlight from my lesson with Sheri yesterday!

Even though our "fight or flight" system may frequently get triggered when improvising, it's important to remember - improvising won't kill you!

I went as a tourist today to an online class for jazz violinists. They mentioned this jazz violinist... saying he plays lots of fast notes! It was interesting to consider how the techniques on violin are similar or different to flute. What do you like about this? Anything you might like to emulate in your own playing?

This isn't reallyimprove but I thought it was nice & worth sharing. Ali Ryerson is playing the Alto flute & Joe Beck is playing a special guitar that he created. They toured together as a Duo for about eight years.

There are at least 2 types of mistakes - 1 - Mistakes you think in your head, "I didn't mean to do that" 2 - Mistakes the audience thinks, "they didn't mean to do that." When you listen to your recordings, I want you to always be listening from these two perspectives! 1 - The audience! 2 - Your best flute teacher! When you listen as an audience I want you to start noticing those spots that sound like mistakes. You may notice that what you thought was a mistake at the moment turns out not to sound like a mistake in the recording! If that is the case, then you are probably getting good at the techniques we've been practicing in Improv Games to compensate when things don't go as planned!
