Is this too good to be true?
Hi everyone, Just quick question, as I’ve been offered a role that sounds almost too good to be true. Earlier this week, I received an email from a company called Nova Publishing, asking for a voiceover for a project. I replied to them earlier this morning, asking for further details, and I’ve just received the follow up email, describing the project. The production that they need help with, is for a Spotify immersive drama with a final fee of $2,500. The creative director has offered me this role without asking for an audition or about the equipment that I use to record. I’m extremely suspicious of this too good to be true offer, and wanted to know if this was, indeed, a scam (possibly a AI scam), or if anyone had heard and worked with Nova Publishing before? Thank you everyone.

Hi Lizzie, how did they find you? I'm assuming that you didn't audition for this role? Is there a legitimate connection? Have you done something lately that might have drawn a scammer to you on linked in etc. I'm suspicious, as I've just been scammed myself by someone purporting to be from penguin random house. If someone tells you they are from such and such a place it should be reasonable to assume that to be true? but sadly no longer the case! So one of the key things to look out for is the email address, professional publishers don't use generic email addresses Here is the advice from penguin https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/prh-fraud/ however you could stall for time while you contact nova publishing and ask if this is a legitimate project? https://thenovap.com/. ? The fee seems somewhat generous.... having done a few dramas it is a lot more than I ever got. I think you are right to be suspicious. To be given a role without any audition or quality control seems extremely suspicious! I wish I'd reached out to PRH first, I wasted a couple of days recording crap and then was told I had to pay $160 to access their payment portal.... yeah right! I pay to access their payment portal...

Introduction
Good morning Peter, Mark and all the members here. I've been an actor for over 40 years and have bumbled around in all the usual "bits n bobs" ( a lot of panto!) Voiceover had played a small part in that career, dubbing foreign films into English, voicing corporate videos on artificial insemination in cattle and knitting machines, some audio drama with my Dr Who contacts for BBV and the fledgling Big Finish creators on cassette in the 80's "audio visuals", animation in Naples etc. Then I was able to join the roster at Oakhill publishing narrating those big box sets of cds for libraries in 2011 which led me into ACX in 2016 which has provided regular work over the past 10 years. I've been on Skool since last July, my recording set up does include a lovely Kube Diamond soundbooth which stands like a Tardis with it's chameleon circuit working in the corner of our cellar conversion in Crewe in Cheshire. Those things are sooooo heavy! I've been lucky enough to get some commercial VO's recently and have voiced the welcome video to Blists Hill Victorian town which plays on a loop to all the visitors, so I'd like to do some more of those kind of things as audiobooks are hard work! a lot of words! I have always made little films for fun, so I enjoy making my little adverts for my audiobooks in adobe premiere and after effects and I'll attach a sample here for you. If any of you are also acx ers I run a facebook group for you to distribute your promo codes for free with 34,000 members to advertise to, which I'll be happy to share if that is allowed. Looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully making some new friends and contacts.
