I was a weird kid. While everyone my age focused on presents and obsessed about what Santa would bring, I looked forward most to the late-night candlelight service. I could step out of the chaos and into the soft, contemplative music, the wonder and enchantment the story of that night held, the mesmerizing power of a flickering flame. Letting the reassurance of 'all is calm, all is bright' wash over me as I sang and swayed along to Silent Night. I loved communing with the divine without all the dogma. I'm still like that. I still commune without all the constraints, get mesmerized by candle flames, prefer the wonder and enchantment of Christmas Eve to the bustle and commercialism of Christmas Day. How about you?
