I am sharing this everywhere else, so I may as well share it here too. I want to make sure accurate information is being distributed. I know there has been discussion about the BACB update/clarification with regard to fieldwork hours. My hope was that roleplay/mock scenarios would (and I think they should) count if they are something that COULD be done with a client. This has allowed many people to receive supervision outside of ASD therapy. This response from the BACB is very clear and my program will be overhauled accordingly. This will cause a huge strain on many of my supervisees. I wanted to share this information in case it is relevant for any of you. Direct response from BACB: "You can count time spent role-playing if it is related to one of the trainee’s specific clients (e.g., role-playing implementing a new procedure before implementing it directly with the client). As a note, the term “fieldwork” was intentionally chosen because it refers to gaining practical experience in a natural, real-world setting. Requiring practical experience prior to certification aligns with requirements across professions. Just as we expect medical doctors to work directly with patients before earning their license, behavior analysts must have supervised practice with clients before becoming certified. So, although mock situations may be a valuable activity, those hours cannot count toward supervised fieldwork as they do not provide experience with real-life situations."
