A tale of two butters
Growing up on a dairy farm with raw milk and our own homemade sorts of foods, we really didn’t realize how spoiled we were. Fast forward 30 years and look at the difference between grass fed butter & your just regular average butter from the grocery store. My husband would also adamantly tell you the texture and taste is vastly different between these two. Now, as a child I had access to pretty homemade butter but my husband was fed margarine until we got married. I insisted we NEVER used or purchased margarine, but we’ve been upgrading our butter to better butter. Many people think we are crazy when we say the grass fed stuff is better but it even LOOKS better in the dish! I do use the pale stuff when I bake sometimes for people who really don’t care about the difference or throw a pat or two on a steak. However when my husband bakes he’ll only use the “good stuff”. As far as I know, my children have never had margarine - I’m not sure they know what it is. The contrast was just so stark, I thought I should share. If you can, definitely get high quality foods as close to their source as possible.

Love the title of ya post, Boycie, very clever. I agree with all your points, and ya hubby. I tend to switch between butter, ghee, and tallow for cooking, dependent on dish, but salted organic butter is my go-to for black coffees and eating raw as a wee snack. This is my current one, from an online organic farm shop in England, but is twice the price of supermarket stuff. Worth it, imo.

@Rachel Moors Same place I source my raw A2 milk, https://www.gazegillorganics.co.uk/. Diced lamb and grass fed extra mature cheddar are also excellent.
Festival temptations
I’m going to Blue Reef festival this weekend and know I’m going to be tempted to drink. In fact I kind of want to drink as a one off. I love Prosecco but think that’s quite sugary? I’ve heard someone say that tequila is quite a good choice as it’s lo sugar and not grain based like other spirits. Any advice? Also I’m taking electrolytes so gonna try sticking to those for most of the weekend, and some caffeine tablets. If I have a few diet cokes, will the chemicals make me feel as bad as if I just have an actual drink? Food will be fine as I’m taking a cool box of meat and the bbq.

Zero carbs in whisky, as long as you don't drown it with a mixer... https://www.carbmanager.com/food-detail/nl:d2ec86b63324b899066ced61aa604bd7/whiskey-scotch
First 10k complete. Zero carbs...
On Friday, I amazed myself and other members of my wee running group, although I think for different reasons. In March (my 50th birthday), I joined the Couch to 5K group with a goal of running 5k in 9 weeks. At the time, I had no idea how I was going to manage, but I ended up doing it in 7 weeks. After the graduation 5k, which was my 5th 5k nonstop, I signed up for a 10k trail race while still riding the wave. Unfortunately the summer break happened and motivation dropped so I didn't make it out, and suddenly the 10k was upon me. I had one more 5k practice run last Monday and then on Friday I lined up for the race. What nobody knew was that I had been essentially carnivore for the preceding week since my wife and I decided to get our sh*t together, so I was unsure what would happen. All the other members of the group had posted about how much pasta they had been eating in preparation. Anyway, to sum up, I finished the race, and I wasn't last. In fact, I finished before four of the carb loaders. I had to take a few walking breaks, especially on the larger hills, because my legs were sore, but given that I hadn't gone past 5k before that, it was expected. I still completed the first 5k without stopping. On the way home I told the others in the car I had been carnivore for the week preceding, and the reaction I got was priceless. " So you had NO CARBS before that at all??" "Nope". I'm now interested in how to continue at that distance on as few carbs as possible. I have another 10k on August 21st, so let's see what happens.

I buy locally sourced free range farm eggs from my excellent butcher. £2.50 per half dozen, with yolks the colour of a deep orange sunset. They're delicious, and well worth the extra money, also supports local businesses.
