OpenAI Official GPT-4.1 Prompting Guide 📝
OpenAI just released their official GPT-4.1 Prompting Guide. Thanks to Andreas Horn for sharing this on LinkedIn. It outlines how to write more effective prompts and provides examples for a range of advanced use cases. Worth reading through if you're building AI workflows or trying to improve how GPT-4.1 handles instructions. The main sections are: 1. Agentic Workflows – how to guide multi-step reasoning and tool use 2. Long Context – strategies for using GPT-4.1’s extended context window effectively 3. Chain of Thought – encouraging the model to reason step by step 4. Instruction Following – improving how the model interprets and responds to tasks 5. General Prompting Advice – formatting, placement of instructions, and token management You can read the full guide here 👉 https://cookbook.openai.com/examples/gpt4-1_prompting_guide Let me know what you think, curious how others are applying this in real workflows.
