📢 Cycle 3 Is Open: New Theme, More Winners, $17,000 in Prizes
It’s official! Cycle 3 is here and we’re doing things differently this time. We listened to your feedback from Cycle 2 and made some changes. Instead of building anything, this cycle has a theme: PAY. SAVE. EARN. The focus is on Mini Apps that bring real functionality to Nimiq Pay, things people will actually open and use. Four prize categories, five winners: 💸 PAY: Make everyday payments easier 🪙 SAVE: Expand what users can hold and manage 📈 EARN: Put assets to work through staking and yield opportunities 🔄 ON/OFF-RAMP: Make moving money in and out of Nimiq Pay easier Here’s how the $17,000 USDC prize pool is distributed: 🥇 $4,000: Best PAY Mini App 🥇 $4,000: Best SAVE Mini App 🥇 $4,000: Best EARN Mini App 🥇 $4,000: Best ON/OFF-RAMP Mini App ⭐ $1,000: Community Council Bonus Prize We’ve also updated the scoring to put more weight on functionality, usefulness, and real usage. The goal is simple: build something people will actually use. We put together a full breakdown of the theme, scoring, prizes, and ideas to get you started: 🔍 https://www.nimiq.com/blog/mini-apps-competition-cycle-3-announcement Ready to build? 🏆 Cycle 2 Winners Are Here!
Cycle 2 is officially wrapped, and we’re excited to announce the builders taking home a share of the $17,000 USDC prize pool. The Community Council decided to split 2nd place between two builders this cycle: 🥇 Knock by @Kaichao Sun: $7,000 An encrypted chat built on Nimiq where users can set a connection cost for strangers while keeping conversations private. Knock also supports sending and receiving NIM directly in chats, tipping other community members, and joining public group conversations. 🥈 Blacktop by @Jesse Lukose: $4,000 A privacy-first ride companion built for real riders and real rides, whether you’re riding solo or with a crew. Blacktop combines ride tracking with Pay Up, its built-in wallet, plus Blacktank, a shared crew fuel pot that only pays out with a unanimous vote, and instant QR tips in NIM or USDT. 🥈 NIMIQ.kids by @Andjroo Me: $4,000 A family Mini App that turns chores into real NIM. Parents set rewards, kids complete jobs, and approved rewards are sent directly to an account the child owns. Kids can then spend it on screen time and treats, keeping the whole flow within the family. 🥉 PROOF by @Christopher Okunade: $2,000 A learning platform that combines AI-powered skill paths, real-world challenges, and verified proofs to help users demonstrate what they can actually do. The goal is to turn learning into something you can prove, showcase, and use to unlock new opportunities. Big thanks to the Community Council for reviewing every submission and selecting this cycle’s winners. And of course, thank you to everyone who built and shipped a Mini App this cycle. You made Cycle 2 one to remember, and we’re excited to see where you take things next. Want to dive deeper into the winning submissions? 🎤 How did you spend your weekend?
142 Mini Apps are under review and the wait is almost over. While the Community Council works through your submissions, we want to know how you spent the weekend. Were you making some last improvements to your Cycle 2 submission, planning what you want to build for Cycle 3, or taking some time away from the screen entirely? Let us know in the comments, and stay close for the next announcement.

Learning more skills and surviving 😁
we just hit 50 real players on NimHunt in our first week live 🎉
one week ago, NimHunt was basically an experiment: can i make a small onchain game people actually come back to play instead of another crypto app where the blockchain is the whole personality? today, we just crossed 50 real gamers not 50 wallets created for an airdrop, not 50 people clicking through a demo once, but rather 50 people actually showing up to hunt, explore Angkor, collect gems, open chests, survive runs and compete for NIM. ngl, that’s a pretty cool milestone for me. especially because while people have been playing, I’ve basically been rebuilding the foundation underneath NimHunt at the same time. over the last few days we went through a full production pass. the biggest change is that NimHunt is slowly becoming less of a wallet playing a game and more of an actual game that happens to use Nimiq underneath. a timeline collapse of what i shipped: > adventurer identity wallets are still the secure ownership layer, but players now have an actual identity inside nimhunt. unique adventurer names, profiles, server-backed identity, persistent stats and a proper separation between who owns the account and who you are in the game. > onboarding & adventurer profiles new players can create their adventurer, pick from the 20 avatars we added across common → mythic rarities, and returning players can recover their historical gameplay stats. practice also stays open without forcing people through the full reward/wallet flow. > public identity & hall of heroes the leaderboard just stopped feeling like a block explorer instead of identifying everyone by wallet addresses, nimhunt can now show adventurer names, avatars, profiles and real gameplay reputation. > allies we added the first actual social layer. you can add other adventurers, accept requests, build an allies list, remove people and block when needed. no chat/global feed yet. just a small foundation I can build actual multiplayer/social mechanics on later. > bank, settings, & navigation treasure bank finally became its own proper part of the game instead of being scattered around different screens.
