Following The Child’s Lead P2: Listening
In order to follow our child’s lead, we must first listen to what they’re trying to tell us. Every nonverbal cue, every gesture, every vocalization or word they speak communicates something to us. Often, we label this communication as “behavior” but many times it’s just the child trying to tell us something. What is your child trying to tell you?

Following The Child’s Lead P2: Listening
Following the Child’s Lead
This is a key concept in DIR-Floortime, and one that will help in your interactions with your kids! I use this in my Music Therapy sessions as well to build rapport, and make sure the child feels heard/seen. Following the child’s lead builds trust, elicits engagement, and builds a stronger relationship over time between the child and caregiver/parent/teacher.

Rain Is Calming To Ben
Rain Is Calming to Ben 🌧️ The sound of rain and wind has always been calming and soothing for Ben. When it starts to rain, I often notice him crack open the sliding door just enough to sit and listen. Sometimes he even turns on his sound machine and chooses the rain setting. 🌧️ Does the sound of rain, wind, or other types of weather help your child, grandchild, student—or even you—feel calm? We'd love to hear your experiences in the comments.
