The Art of Sliding Bench Training
What a Great Place to Start😀.i just purchased a total Gym and I dont Know were to begin? i know that sounds strange but For me i am 66 and when i was younger i spent many years Locked up..when you are 18-35 and all you have to do all day is hit the weight pile. i was 6' 1 and 240-280 and a very aggressive young man.it was a great way to focus all of that neg energy.. after i did my time i did not want to go back so i focused my energy (time) on becoming a better person and keeping up my fitness..believe it or not, but i kept getting asked to leave the Gym. i was told they weren't geared up for guys like me. Soo i redirected my attention to, Mt Biking and biathlons Running Biking Swimming, untill i finally wore myself out..here is a picture of me today. 460lbs and i use a walker to get around. I take no meds i have no infirmities , i am Fat and getting up enough courage to hit the total Gym..i started Atkins on Tuesday i am down 7lbs. i cant believe how big a difference 7lbs makes..i caught myself for the first time in a long time walking around the house without my walker it felt good..so Pray for Me. i am Believing God for a Miracle Along with the TotalGym. it is written in the Scriptures. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that What is lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.. Heb 12:12-13

Eat before workout??
Hey everyone! Just about to do a pull day, but I just felt like a quick bowl of oatmeal before, so thought I'd get this party started. Anybody else eat beforehand? Why/why not?? (apologies Mike if I'm jumping the gun)

I usually don't eat before I workout. I'm an afternoon lifter though so it's usually only an hour or 2 after lunch. Rare occasions where I feel I need food before a lift I would have a banana and a beef protein stick (1st Phorm). I also do competitive softball and BJJ if I don't have time to eat dinner before those I usually have a slice of bread with peanut butter and honey on it, definitely my favorite energy snack.

@Mike D Jalapeno is my favorite. My other 2 go to flavors are Original Smokehouse and Sharp Cheddar.
Why I don’t stick to just one way of training
One thing I’ve noticed from doing YouTube and just being in fitness for a long time is how easy it is to fall into camps. Bands vs weightsMachines vs free weightsCertain programs, certain “gurus,” etc. I actually like when people are passionate about what they’re doing no question. What I don’t really understand is when people start arguing one method or one piece of equipment is the answer and everything else is wrong. That’s usually where I see people actually get stuck or just jump to the next thing. Especially with home gyms, I think the biggest mistake is trying to force one tool to do everything. What I’ve found works a lot better (and is honestly more fun) is mixing things based on what they do well. -Bands give you great constant tension and can be really joint friendly -Free weights just feel raw and hard to replace for loading and progression -Machines are nice for controlled, targeted work -Sliding bench trainers let you hit some unique angles and string things together in ways you normally can’t None of these are perfect on their own. But when you combine them, you can build something that actually fits (and is unique to) you instead of trying to force yourself into one system. Anyway, just some thoughts, I’ll share more of how I actually put this stuff together as this page progresses. Curious what you guys are mainly using right now and or questions you may have for future content over here. Thanks

Whenever people ask me about building a home gym of just workouts in general the simple answer is one you'll use and stick with. With fitness mental struggle is the largest piece, not the actual working out part. If your goal is to just get as strong as possible then read Starting Strength, grab a barbell and weights and get to work doing the same 5 lifts over and over. Or if you care about aesthetics then integrate more isolation exercises and machines. But I think knowing what your goal is and finding out how you like to lift is key to being consistent. I think anyone starting their lifting journey should try to start with going to a commercial gym for their first 2 years. See if you stick with it, and get the full buffet of options to see what you like. Then decide if you can build a home gym to fit your training style. For me I prefer cables, barbell, and dumbbell work, and I do not like machines. This is why the all in ones became a game changer for me because I could get what I like to do in a box in a small footprint. Realizing that dedicating a huge piece of my home for a gym isn't really an option. I think for working out is finding out your goals and the way you enjoy working out to meet them. For building a home gym deciding how much space you want to dedicate to it, then being smart about what you put into the space, along with budget.

Another thought I had on this is understanding the season you are in. So I go through cycles every year on how I train. Springtime I usually do more "athletic" style training to prepare for summer softball. So a lot of circuits, HiiT, and flexibility work which also coincides with a small cut to get in summer shape haha. Usually when summer hits I move back to a maintenance schedule due to higher activity outside of training plus diet starts to suffer with vacations and BBQs. Fall hits and I dial in and focus on strength and growth since it's gets cold here and holidays start so caloric intake naturally increases due to hearty cold weather meals. Christmas break and first couple weeks of January I usually use as recovery periods, very light training overall to give the ol body a break after crushing myself during the fall.
Welcome to Hybrid Resistance Training
This is where I’ll be organizing how I actually approach training across different tools, programming, special courses, and building a community of likeminded trainees. Most people get stuck thinking they need one “best” method. For me the goal is to combine not only what works, but also apply it in a way that’s practical and sustainable long term. Inside here I’ll be sharing: - Training ideas and setups - How I use bands, cables, sliding bench trainers, machines, and free weights together - Answers to your questions as they come up - Foster a Community 👉 Feel Free to Introduce yourself below (or on another post) and let me know what equipment you’re currently using (bands, Total Gym/sliding bench, dumbbells, etc.) That’ll help me shape what I share in here moving forward. Community Guidelines • Be respectful and encouraging. • Constructive discussion is always welcome, but personal attacks and negativity are not. • Remember that different training methods can all be effective. Keep an open mind and respect that others may have different goals, preferences, and experiences. • Share your successes, ask questions, and help others whenever you can. To get things started: Questions? Feel free to post your questions in the community. One of the best parts of this group is learning from each other's experiences, and often another member may have already solved the same problem you're facing. I'll jump into discussions and answer questions whenever I can, but I won't always be available or able to respond to every post personally. If you're looking for more individualized guidance, I'll be opening additional one-on-one consultation opportunities in the future. Always consult your physician or another qualified healthcare professional before beginning any exercise program.

Hey everyone names Mike. I'm 38 years old, and been consistent on my fitness for almost 20 years now. Played ton of sports in high school and baseball in junior college. Went to university stopped playing sports and started partying. Got a beer gut (skinny fat) girlfriend broke up with me, so started my journey with good ol P90X. After that got more into gym lifting and just kind of became a passion of mine. I have 3 kids now 5 and under so time is limited commodity so decided to build a home gym in 2022. Started with PowerBlocks, flybird bench, Costco Olympic set, and a Major Lutie all in one. Last year I sold all that (but the Costco plates) and built my forever home gym. Current equipment - Rogue FM-HR Twin Stack - Rep Pepin Dumbbells - Nighthawk Bench - Dip Bar - Landmine - Concept 2 Rower - Punching Bag - Miscellaneous accessories most home gyms have. At this point I'm just trying to keep up with my kids and not let the old man in. I also do BJJ and play competitive softball so I focus on strength, power, and athleticism.

@Mike D understand about the injuries as that is always lingering in the back of my mind as I get older and recovery is longer. I am an IT executive so my job doesn't depend on avoiding injury but a broken hand our finger would make it harder, or just overall social look of showing up to work all beat up haha. But I want to do it until at least my kids take hold so we will see. As for content is just enjoy learning about fitness and what else is out there. Especially as I age seeing what others are doing to stay in shape and keep workouts interesting. I also like learning about small auxiliary home gym items that I could maybe incorporate into my core gym. As for you channel while I don't do a lot of band work and have never been near a total gym, I enjoy the way you talk about fitness and your mindset.
