PERFUMER'S EDITION: FAVORITE FRAGRANCE REVIEW #2
XERJOFF XJ 1861 NAXOS Going Beyond the Notes: Understanding the Materials Behind the Fragrance Today, we're taking a closer look at one of the most recognizable fragrances in the niche perfume world: Xerjoff Naxos. Naxos is part of Xerjoff's XJ 1861 collection, inspired by Italy and its rich cultural heritage. It brings together aromatic freshness, honeyed sweetness, warm spices, and tobacco. But for this Perfumer's Edition, we're going beyond how the fragrance smells and exploring the raw materials Xerjoff discloses, their odor profiles, their functions in perfumery, and how the remaining accords might be constructed. THE OFFICIAL NOTE BREAKDOWN Top: Lemon, Bergamot, Lavender, Incense from Oman Heart: Jasmine Sambac, Honey, Cinnamon, Cashmere Base: Vanilla, Tobacco Leaf, Tonka Bean Now, let's get into the chemistry behind the fragrance. THE KNOWN RAW MATERIALS Unlike simply reading the note pyramid, we can examine Xerjoff's published ingredient declaration, which identifies a number of actual botanical materials and aromatic compounds. 1. Linalool: Smell: Fresh, floral, lavender-like, slightly citrusy and woody. Purpose: Frequently used to build lavender and aromatic floral accords. It creates freshness, contributes floral lift, and helps connect citrus notes with the floral heart. 2. Linalyl Acetate Smell: Sweet, clean, lavender-like, slightly bergamot-like, and fruity. Purpose: One of the characteristic odor compounds associated with lavender. It softens herbal sharpness and contributes a smooth, fresh aromatic quality. 3. Coumarin Smell: Sweet freshly cut hay, tonka bean, almond-like warmth, and subtle vanilla. Purpose: A foundational material in many fougère fragrances. It adds sweetness, warmth, and a distinctive hay-like character. It can help bridge lavender, tobacco, and gourmand accords. 4. Vanillin Smell: Sweet, creamy, familiar vanilla with warm balsamic nuances. Purpose: Adds recognizable vanilla sweetness, warmth, and body. It can soften harsher woody or tobacco-like effects and enrich gourmand compositions.

Wow. I had to take several passes over all this information. It all makes sense. Thank you for this breakdown. “Honey isn't necessarily just honey. Tobacco doesn't always require tobacco absolute. And a lavender note can involve several individual aroma chemicals working alongside a botanical extract.” I love this Quote because it reminds me why some fragrances have similar notes but smell so different. Thank you sharing your passion.

@Anthony Leyva Oh yeah…. I think the research is the best part especially when the scent works really well…
Premiering Rayhann Jungle Vibe
This is an alternative to Dries Van Noten Santal Greenery (I have never tried it). It opens very aromatic, citrusy fresh, sweet, and green all beautifully blended. After couple of minutes, a sweet, floral, ambery/salty like aroma intensifies projecting like crazy, and continuing through the dry down, where a more subtle and creamy texture from the sandalwood rounds the aroma. This is a beautiful, unique, exotic, and sophisticated fragrance with a wow factor, that turns heads, gets compliments, projects and lasts. Ideal for warmer weather, but can workout year round, for any occasion. I love it! Website declared Notes: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Fig and Sandalwood.

Where did you purchase it? I am looking for “Green” scent. I have read/seen multiple positive review on Rayhaan.

@Eduardo Figueroa Thank you. My parents are from Penuelas. I will need to try and find it online. Is it a blind buy worthy?

No Buy September = October to Remember
Last month I drew a blank. A co worker was wanting a bottle of 9am Dive. He was quoted a stupid figure at the mall and I said let me get it from place I frequent. I went by on Monday and was greeted warmly as usual. Told the head honcho what I wanted and she gave me the last bottle in stock. Was asked if I wanted anything else and I replied Marwa Extrait. Stated it would be in on Thursday. I was really excited to go by today and ended up bringing home: Marwa Extrait Dior Fahrenheit Parfum D&G Light Blue Eau Intense Mancera Instant Crush Look forward to getting all these on skin.
