@Gabriel Trandafirescu this is true, but construction leaders are different. It’s a very different industry. If you mention the word “coach” you lose 95% of them. By pain, I don’t mean emotional pain, I mean the pain of the business, what worries them and keeps them up at night. What causes them stress, their biggest bug bear. Something they will do anything to change. That’s my in, that’s what I focus on and the rest comes with it. I don’t coach, although I am trained too, I don’t have interest in that and other people are probably far better at it, I focus on the business primarily. I mentor my clients indirectly, it’s part of the process, but I focus on getting the business to run efficiently, which often means removing the founder so it runs without them as a default. When someone is so attached to something, by making them conscious of it, often makes the change more difficult. If you make the changes without them being fully aware, once it’s implemented and they are happy with it. Then I raise the fact that they were the problem. But I won’t cause myself unnecessary battles in the thick of a transformation.

@Gabriel Trandafirescu it’s a very strange industry if you don’t know it. The UK in particular. But I agree. The outcome is what’s important. Great topic though
If Late Payment Is The Problem, Where Did The Profit Go?
In construction, we often hear companies complaining about late payments. This is a problem, but often the problem is far greater than that. I’ve explored this topic in more detail in a blog post this morning. https://h2construction.uk/blog/f/if-late-payment-is-the-problem-where-did-the-profit-go I welcome your comments.

@Gabriel Trandafirescu I totally agree. In a business context, clarity starts with a good contract. So many people feel a contract is a weapon of some kind. It should be an alignment of expectations. So everyone knows where they stand and are confident in what the resolutions of any issues that may arise are. A project can fail at the initial concept stage and no amount of planning or professionals can rectify that. I often speak about Planning properly and how an additional week at the front end of a project can save 4-6 weeks, or more, at the end.
A question worth sitting with for a minute...
Your calendar tracks where your time went last week. It says nothing about where your energy went. For most founders, those don't match, and the gap is the thing worth looking at. What drained the most energy last week that wasn't on the plan? One sentence.

My energy was pretty good last week. In fact I haven’t wasted to much time or energy since I focused on putting my energy into what matters. Being selective with who I meet and events I attend has really helped
