Shirt fabrics
I have a hard time getting button down shirts to fit properly. I’ve been through 3 remakes on a linen short sleeve button down with Hockerty and I still don’t like it. I have polos from them that I do like. Does anyone have any fabric suggestions that might help based on this info? I’m looking at cotton flannel shirts, oxford or twill for the winter. But I’ve also been looking at long sleeve polos. I’m just not sure about the usefulness of long sleeve polos in the business casual environment I’m likely going to be working in 2 yrs from now. I’d be pairing the shirts with tweed pants and I have corduroy sports coats.

@Antonio Cent Hockerty has solid color flannels and you can get button down collars on them, so that’s probably what I’ll do.

75/100. Called my shirt purple (it’s navy). Said my shorts are a bit loose around waist (maybe just a hair?) I’d say it’s pretty accurate so far. Obviously this is a casual outfit and graded as such.

Knowing the dress code and ignoring it
Hi Gents, If the unwritten dress code is super relax gym like attire but it's not a gym setting, do you ignore it and bring your outfit up a few notches to the casual level and dress how you want or dress like everyone else? What would you do?

Step it up a notch. I’m getting comments from guys at my fire station just by wearing chinos and a polo with matching leathers. I got a lot of comments from extended family last week while on vacation and was told I was the best dressed (again just by using Antonio’s guidelines). People notice

Wide leg pants?
I’m a little confused about the RMRS post about wide leg pants being “in style.” Antonio frequently writes about “proper fitting” clothes, and yet there’s this post about wide leg pants now. I’m 51 so I’m not pursuing that look, but it seems like there’s a lack of consistency there with that article.

@Brian McGuire yes that’s it. I understand your points. My point is that if “proper fitting” pants are not having more than an inch of fabric you can pinch up next to your leg then it seems having defined cuff opening sizes is irrelevant. To follow the “proper size” idea would be to just be able to pinch the right amount of fabric, otherwise you’re getting into “trend” territory. My 7” opening may be just as proper as someone’s 9” depending on lower leg size. Obviously all of this is an opinion; all of it. But, 9” would look pretty terrible on me.

Finally reached the point
It has taken a few months to get here but I finally reached it. Finally have chinos and polos that fit properly, proper shoes, and matching leather. I don’t need to ask if it fits or looks good, because I know it does (and people are telling me I’m making my wife look good). The system works, and makes looking like a mature responsible adult really easy. I have my work uniform, and now I have my responsible dad uniform. Thanks Antonio!

I’m a 51 yr old dad to a 4 yr old son. I currently work as a Firefighter/Paramedic but I’m working on a career change, and a style change to match.
