It’s official!
New Jersey is officially in the process of legalizing psilocybin for treatment! But first they will implement a pilot program which establishes enough research to help them regulate a full framework for this kind of work in the future. Exciting times!

Bad trip ehh?
Some say a “bad trip” doesn’t ever truly exist. What’s your take? From personal experience, those things that occur during an experience that may be deemed scary/bad are just aspects of yourself that are trying to surface. When you face such incidents without fear and with more of a curious nature, you tend to have tremendous breakthroughs. When you embraced the experience, whether you were shown the worse aspects of yourself or the most beautiful parts, you tend to grow in your evolution much easier than someone who’s resistant towards it!

mushroom vs. high blood pressure / aneurysms? (any experience)
Hello everyone, I would like to ask for your thoughts and experiences. My mother has a diagnosed cervical dystonia affecting the head and neck, which also causes orthopedic issues in the cervical spine (HWS). Unfortunately, last weekend she additionally suffered a cerebral hemorrhage caused by multiple aneurysms and very high blood pressure. She was in the ICU, and the acute situation has now been treated. (She is not in the hospital because of the dystonia.) If her condition continues to stabilize and there are no lasting consequences from the hemorrhage, I would like to explore alternative approaches together with her regarding the dystonia. I am wondering whether her dystonia could potentially have psychological or psychosomatic components. In this context, I am also interested in whether anyone has experience, research knowledge, or observations regarding how certain mushrooms (e.g. Fly Agaric) may affect blood pressure, heart rate, or the nervous system, especially in people with hypertension or vascular issues. Are there any known experiences, experiments, or research findings on this topic? I am explicitly looking for exchange and experiential knowledge, not medical advice. Thank you very much 🤍

Hi Marco sorry for the late response! I'm really sorry to hear about what your mom has been going through, sounds incredibly tough, and it's great that you're exploring options thoughtfully while her condition stabilizes. I'll share some thoughts based on what I've come across in research and discussions around these topics, but as you said, this is just for exchange, not any kind of advice. On the dystonia potentially having psychological or psychosomatic components, from what I've read, there's quite a bit of evidence suggesting that idiopathic cervical dystonia often goes hand-in-hand with psychiatric aspects like anxiety, depression, or stress triggers. For instance, studies show that up to 90% of people with cervical dystonia might experience anxiety or depression at some point, and these can even show up before the physical symptoms start. One paper highlighted how excessive psychological stress (like major life events or conflicts) preceded the onset in a group of patients, acting almost like a trigger for the dystonia to kick in rapidly. It's not that it's "all in the head," but more that the brain's stress response might interact with the neurological wiring involved in dystonia. Neuroimaging has linked anxiety levels to changes in brain connectivity, like between the amygdala and motor areas, which could worsen symptoms. In rare cases, there's something called psychogenic dystonia where inner conflicts manifest physically, but that's uncommon and needs careful psych eval to distinguish from organic types. Overall, addressing stress or mood through therapy or mindfulness has helped some folks manage symptoms alongside standard treatments, but experiences vary. Regarding mushrooms like Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) and their effects on blood pressure, heart rate, nervous system, especially with hypertension or vascular issues: This one's tricky because A. muscaria is known for being highly toxic and unpredictable. The main compounds (like muscimol and ibotenic acid) primarily hit the central nervous system, causing stuff like confusion, dizziness, hallucinations, or even coma in severe cases. On the cardio side, reports show it can mess with blood pressure and heart rate sometimes lowering them (bradycardia, hypotension), sometimes raising them (tachycardia, hypertension), depending on dose and prep. There's some animal research suggesting muscimol might reduce cardiovascular risks long-term by modulating stress responses, but that's super preliminary and not tested in humans with conditions like aneurysms or high BP. In people with hypertension or vascular problems, it could be risky due to potential vasoconstriction or irregular heart effects, and case reports mention respiratory issues or paranoia on top. I've seen anecdotal stories in mushroom communities about microdosing for nerve calming, but poisonings are common, and it's not something researched much for therapeutic use in these contexts, mostly warnings about avoiding it with heart/vascular stuff.
